Actually, I was VERY lucky in that he didn't need much training at all!!!

P.S. Thanks to ALL of you who have sent me "Happy Birthday" wishes! I have only my husband (and only three family members sent me birthday greetings), so MUCH APPRECIATED!!!

For my birthday this year (in June) it was just my house-mate, Professor Robert, and me (our other housemate Rod is in upstate New York - he landed a job managing a spiritual retreat center near the Adirondacks). The professor (yes he is a real professor ... went to Harvard .... teaches at Drexel) treated me to dinner at a Cheesecake Factory restaurant right downtown. After that I treated him to cocktails at a posh restaurant and bar nearby. Robert has been living in my house for 14 years now.

I know what you mean; my cats seem to have no interest in birthdays or holidays. I did get a bit of a surprise when I went to the dentist for my cleaning yesterday. When I was leaving, the receptionist said that they noticed I had a birthday coming up and gave me an envelope. It was a card signed by everyone at the practice with a few personal words from each one. Also a card for a free ice cream cone at a local family run ice cream shop. Can't say that I have ever got something like that from any dentist I ever had in Florida.

Many, many years ago, I had a new girlfriend who liked to go horseback riding. So one day I decided to go with her. I was in agony the next day. First and last time I ever went horseback riding.

That's because you were not interested enough in horses to push past the pain, and probably not the girl friend either, lol

ANY sport makes a person sore at the onset; if one has enough interest in it, they keep forging ahead until the muscles acclimate

I've had horses non-stop and have been paying for them since I was 12 - 60 years. I banned DH from riding many years ago because he doesn't listen and he put one of my best trail horses down, coming across a ravine.

He does an excellent job helping me with the heavy work I can't do anymore and has finally listened regarding how to shower and cool down that same horse his mishandling of the reins caused to fall down, many years ago. That horse is now 25 and has been with me since he was 2-1/2 ---- more years than DH has, lollol

This reminds me of my two 'real life's encounters with horses.

FIRST let me say that most animals are attracted to me and come up to be petted.

For some reason, not horses. I love them but, the first time I really encountered one, I was 8 months pregnant. Well, friends of ours bought a farm and had horses. We went to visit and I fell in love with the horses. The husband helped me on one and I proceeded to ride.

Right.

The horse took me into a pasture and wouldn't move. Being 8 months pregnant, I couldn't jump off (he was huge!) So I had to wait until people began to wonder and came looking for us. Not a good experience.

The next, and last, time I rode a horse was at a company event where we were there for the weekend. The resort included horse back riding so I signed up. I did ask for a gentle horse.

Well, that horse tried to get rid of me by brushing against every bush we came across. By the time the ride ended, I was really sore. That was my last attempt to ride a horse.

Dogs and cats love me so I've always had a hard time understanding this. I love horses and always will. Just wish they loved me back.
