I recently learned that taking Acetaminophen (Tylenol) can be a very dangerous drug if you go over the recommended dosage. It cause damage to the liver. For example, if you use "Extra Strength" (500 mg) be sure to wait 6 - 8 hours before taking another dose. Did you know that in the US 100,000 cases of toxic reactions to Acetaminophen have been reported to hospitals and clinics in just a year ... and get this! ... about 1/3 of those die!

Acetaminophen is NOT aspirin. Two different medicines.

It is recommended by some doctors that seniors take aspirin a day (children's aspirin that is) because it helps by interfering with the clotting aspect of blood and reduces risk for heart attack and stroke. Unfortunately I can't take it because I have had stomach surgery and it can irritate a stomach.

What do I do? I alternate taking a Tylenol with an Ibuprofen (Nuprin, Advil, etc.), which neither one is good for you in large dosages. I have to stay away from aspirin the rest of my life, however

There are other blood thinners that you can take. Ask your doctor.

I read an article in the ''Wall Street Journal'' some time during the late seventies detailing aspirin's efficacy in preventing heart attacks. I've been taking it daily since that time. Since children's aspirin is more expensive I've always taken a 325 mg. tablet; I've never had a problem.

I was on prednisone for almost 10 years non-stop, so I've had a variety of the infamous side effects, including Cushing's Syndrome; however, on a routine short course with the prescribed tapering, you shouldn't have to deal with anything more serious than what you're currently experiencing.

People take too much for too long. It is not recommended for long term use. You won't get liver damage using it occasionally.

I stay away from nsaids when I can, when I was younger I would have to pound ibuprofen every month.......thank you, menopause.

I didn't know that many deaths occur from Tylenol, OMG that's scary.

Thanks, movinon, my vet is an ass so we don't vet often. That's a good tip not to handle it if allergic, I would have never thought of it.

Taking aspirin a day if you are a drinker can be bad for you. I'm going to quit drinking......

If you're taking aspirin as a blood thinner, check out (Nordic) fish oil supplements for that.

I take fish oil as well. My cholesterol is 139; I'm hoping to build up my HDL.
