We have cicadas every year but just not as many as during the years of the "big hatch" as POPCORN referred to it.

Numerous vids were uploaded to YouTube in 2011 for our big hatch here at that time.

Here is one that gives you an idea of what it sounds like to have literally hundreds of thousands of the critters around you at one time.

Thanks!
(Don't have them out here. I do remember them driving me batty with the noise when I was in North Carolina years ago.)

7 years ... 17 years ... I musta been thinking of Pon Farr

Thanks but no thanks, LOL!
Heard them at Lake Waccama, North Carolina in the 80's
After 1 day I was ready to scream. I think I did a couple of times.

I love the sound of crickets in August and early September.

"Cricket songs are musical to the human ear because their carrier frequencies are relatively pure and low."

I don't mind crickets...till one gets in the house! They can drive me nuts trying to find them and soon as you get close they shut up. lol

Just a rant . . . so frustrated and upset. Can't get anyone to issue an insurance policy on my recently purchased townhome. There is some kind of crazy "underwriters rule" in the region where the TH is located . . . no one will issue a policy without also having coverage on the person's auto.

My current residences and cars are all bundled with one policy. My current insurer won't insure my townhome b/c it is not my primary residence. They will not issue an HO6 policy - some reg they have about multiple residences. The only way they will issue a policy is to put an auto lapse of 90 days on my primary residence policy!

Meanwhile, the HOA management company has called and are going to fine me daily if I don't get a declaration faxed to them.
