Today the mail brought a statement recap from my insurance company for the cost of the surgeon and the anesthesiologist. They covered a good portion of the surgeons bill but nothing for the anesthesia.

What, do they think it's optional? Well when it comes to pain I'm a big wuss so I opted in.

I also got signed up for my supplemental Medicare coverage and drug plan and what a loooong telephone call that was. But it's done.

Yes, today actually turned out to be possibly the most pleasant day I have had for many many months.

Hubby was in a great frame of mind, I got a lot accomplished.

It was a beautiful day here - not as hot as we typically have this time of year.

THank you all for tolerating my whine earlier . . . Looking forward to a good week!!!!

Oh, that never occurred to me, the possibility that it was miscoded. It would be nice if they would pick up some of the $1,100 charge. I guess that if you're right and they do pay some of it it would only be fair that I share the savings with you since I would not have known to challenge it if you hadn't told me.

thank you so much for the info.

Hopefully they coded it wrong, but I doubt that is the reason. In the town I live in the ER Docs couldn't come to an agreement on payment with a major insurer, so they opted out. So, they can charge what ever they want and the insurance doesn't pay. In another city I lived in before this one the radiologists had opted out. You might be able to get the Dr to come down some on the bill, but I never could.

I once had surgery for something and the whole bill was paid except for the anesthesiologist, whom the insurance person told me was not in my network.

I then queried the insurance and said: Did you expect me to sit up erect on the operating table and ask each person if they were in my insurance network? Ridiculous. They decided to pay.

Now that you mention it, that happened to me. Hospital anesthesia staff were not in network although the surgeon and hospital were. took a while to work out.

who would ever think to require they bring in doctors etc who are in network? especially when your are in pain and need help.

I just became aware that there is an annual Crab Festival in July in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. It would be a perfect fit for one or two posters whom I "know" from the Retirement Forum. I just hope they may be "lucky" enough to participate eventually.
