I wanted to get in one more camping trip in Maine--doesn't look like that's going to happen with this cold weather. August is usually sweltering month around here, the dog days of summer. I want to turn the heat on instead.

The days have been warm, but I rarely had to turn the A/C on at night.

It seems to me we had a cold winter, a cool spring, and a cooler than average summer. The flowers in the garden seem to be better this year, blooming longer ...

I think you're right. It seemed like spring would never come and things had to be planted late due to the cold weather. However the flowers haven't been broiled to death by the blazing sun and it's been a more gentle summer with the cool weather. I find the heat and humidity to be harsh.

My Florida blood got the best of me yesterday morning and I became a wimp and turned on the furnace just to get it up to 66.
Unbelievable for this time of year!

How is it that after a lifetime of cold weather, a couple of winters in FL have made me a wimp also? I was so cold this spring when we got back but have finally acclimated. The kids and grandkids flew up for a visit this past week. The parents were enjoying the coolness and the grandkids were cold but it didn't stop them at all in the mornings.

My Dad was remarking how this has to be one of the nicest summers he's enjoyed in a long time with the cooler temps and rain in Indiana. We saw his neighbors who have a pool and they think it's one of the worse summers, wondering where the hot summer days are.

We leave in mid September and I'll be ready, I've had my autumn weather this week already.

Yep, cool again today. I think I have worn sandals maybe twice this year. Closed up all the windows yesterday and today.

My poor kid was here today and told me it's started.
Well, he didn't have to tell me....he was sneezing, his nose and eyes were running.

If he pinches on side of one nostril, he can stop it all. Said he's tried some kind of a clip but it wasn't strong enough. I wonder if this is a case where acupunture would help??

so THAT's what is going on now, I never know with this dang sinus infection. The Claritin wore off and my eyes were all squinty and the pressure kicked in. An hour later the Claritin knocked it out.

Default Allergies and northen New Mexico

If memory serves, a couple of you were curious if I would experience allergy flare-ups when I reached northern New Mexico during my recent trip. Well, no, I did not and I am grateful. I spent one night in Santa Rosa, one night in Santa Fe, and one night in Albuquerque. In the latter two places I was outside walking around a lot (historic districts, etc.) and never noticed any nasal congestion or sneezing. And this was mid-August, if that makes any difference.
