The latest update from my favorite weather blogger Kevin Myatt is calling for 5 - 10 inches of snow in my area. Think I'll get some laundry started and go get 5 gallons of kerosene in case the power goes out.

Then the dogs and I will hunker down and wait for it to arrive this afternoon. Got a couple of good books from the library yesterday and they should keep me happy for a couple of days indoors.

I thought VA was South, lol. What are you doing with snow?

After my tirade about a string of grey drizzly days in new england, woke up this a.m. to a winter wonderland of dazzling sun on snow blanketed fields and trees. It put a bit of a dent into my rash idea about moving to NM.

Virginia is still rather a southern culture, especially here in the southwestern part of the state, far from DC but home is at 36' 51" North latitude and in the Blue Ridge mountains with about 2900' asl elevation.

My home in CA was at 37' 47" North - slightly further north than this place but the weather in the Bay Area was much different.

I hear it's been snowing in Jackson, Mississippi so....

Temps here are still just warm enough that the precip is rain but in a couple of hours that's expected to change.

Laundry done - check
Kerosene bought - check
Nose in a good book - check

The funniest thing about this storm is it's going south of us. So it's hitting the southern half of VA, and leaving Northern VA alone. We're actually in the mid 40s today and I've been outside gardening, without even a jacket.

Don't forget the hot chocolate, a staple for cold or snowstorms. Our temp is going down to 5 tonight. Hot choco (with soymilk) ready

I hope it's not going down to 5 where I live. The sun came out today and it was warm enough to melt most of the snow. We live on a slight hill so away it goes, running like a brook. Another place that's supposed to be getting snow is---England. They hardly ever get snow but they're supposed to get it tomorrow.

Yawn we are suppose to get snow here. We are on the edge of the snow zone so yawn it will be what it will be if anything. But it is expected to melt right away what ever it is. Then off to what I hope is a warm Virginia this weekend. Wife and I are shaking our heads since it was in the 70's few days ago and this past weekend was a beacher with crazies in the water and ty for the bathing suits in mid January for those so gracious to wear them.

Things changed to snow right about 3 pm. Went out and measured depth on the deck railing at 7 and I've got 6 inches of the white stuff so far and there are still plenty of big fat flakes coming down, expected to end by midnight.
