This has been a beautiful cool summer here, but higher temps and humidity today into next week. That's a good thing, we'll be heading to FL in two weeks, so we'll be acclimated a bit. It's hot/humid in FL until around Halloween and then it's like a switch is pulled and the humidity disappears.

This summer has been one of fix all the things, from major to minor, but it's all done, some by us and some by the professionals. We loaned our snowblower to our neighbor and the deal is that he will keep our walk clear to the front door in case anyone needs to come into the house this winter. We keep internet going for our wifi thermostat and DH added two wifi security cams, but I think they will be more snow cams than security.

Leaves are changing on the mountains and by our library, probably from low night temps. Change is in the air!

Living in Florida requires extra security measures. Home invasions are a real problem and the elderly are common targets. Older people should be armed within their homes and grounds at all times. Never work on something in a garage with an open door. Criminals target the aged.

This is an interesting article from a local police department. I hope that people who live in Florida or are planning trips will read it carefully and take appropriate precautions.

I keep hearing scary things about Florida but dh says it's only in southern FL. I don't know. I haven't been there since my parents passed away. Anyway, I'm wondering about different snowbird areas like the beautiful coast of Alabama or even Georgia. I don't really need beach, just warmth and freedom from snow and ice. And cheap!

As the wave of boomers retiring and the continued sagging economy and large numbers of unemployed, the targeting of the aged can only snowball. Seniors need to be savvy, at home and on the internet.

It happens all over, from rural Levy county to Miami.
