That is certainly a fun name for it. Thanks for making me laugh.

I just posted this on the ''Live 1880'' thread in the S-S & P forum. I'm interested in the opinions of older people who may wish to contribute their thoughts, perhaps from personal experience, on historic toilet paper as well as ruder substitutes. As befits that forum, this is a serious discussion.

Here's a question to ponder. Would you buy medicated toilet paper in sealed containers if it were available today?

Ladies: would you rate having the vote as more important than having toilet paper? Gentlemen: what say you?

Let's now visit the Virtual Toilet Paper Museum. It should reassure you about humanity's future to know that there is a community of toilet paper scholars. Scholars are the guardians of civilization.

I was wondering when someone was going to ask this. At last.

Default Posters missing in action

I am normally curious what has happened to people when I suddenly realize that I haven't seen anything in several months from a previously regular poster. About all we can do (normally) is send a direct message. So I am wondering if anyone is in touch with either Robyn55 or with Umbria. I am not prying for personal information about them, but was hoping someone might be able to tell us that they are O.K. That is all. It is sad to contemplate the possibility of a serious, incapacitating illness or accident, or worse.

I know some people have exchanged email addresses, or even telephone numbers. I have done that in the case of only one single poster - the only one with whom I've met in person. That meeting was about a year and a half ago, and I'm happy to report my judgment was correct. That poster remains trustworthy and reliable and I consider him a friend.

I have politely refused several requests for email addresses, hoping to cause no offense. It seems to me the direct messages here are just as good as email for communicating one-on-one. I may be overly cautious, but we all have our comfort zones.

I had not noticed that Robyn55 hasn't posted, but I have noticed Umbria's absence. I was just wondering about her the other day and hoping all is well. And of course, I hope Robyn is, also.

I totally understand comfort zones, Escort Rider. Several folks on C-D have become my "real life" friends and I am pleased to have them as my friends on FB, as well. I haven't counted but I think that maybe 15 or so folks on my FB page are people I met through C-D, and because most of them are local, we have met in person and they are all delightful folks. Two in particular have become very close friends. We started posting together in 2007, met for lunch/coffee and as fate would have it . . . I count these two ladies amongst my closest friends. It helps that our husbands are compatible, too.

The interesting thing is . . . we got to "know" one another posting on a forum and when we met, they were exactly who I expected them to be - no surprises. We used to have a very active Charlotte forum and had a lot of fun posting (huge group of regulars at one time). The board is not very active at all now and many of the once "regulars" no longer post. The boom of newcomers into the area kept us busy with responses until the bottom dropped out in 2008-2009. Since then, things slowed down. The core group of "regulars" is no more. Kind of sad, but I am thankful that I was able to meet so many wonderful folks in past years - all because we happened to have posted on our local forum.

I didn't know that they were still available today. In 1880 manufacturers would have treated the information as proprietary.

Is rectal itch common among the geriatric set? I occasionally get it for a day or two. It would be nice to have something to take the itch away. I'd wager that in 1880 there would have been a bit of opium. That should done a good job although it would be bad to paralyze the sphincter when there were an otherwise free flow.

I'm happy that you appreciate it. I think that many people consider rectal problems but don't mention them because of embarassment.

Another question hasn't yet received an answer, to wit: would you rather be able to vote or have toilet paper if you could only have one? As concerned as I am about politics, I'd rather have toilet paper. My favorite is White Cloud.

I hope that people will share their experiences as well as share their favorite. I still remember the worst. It was at a rest area someplace and felt like wrapping paper. I'm glad that Wyoming rest stops have better.
