Thanks! Someone turned down the humidity/dew point so 85 felt like 85 for a change, with a nice breeze too. Our granddaughter was on a Girl Scout float in the Sun Siesta parade in town, it's the kick off for the season and it was a perfect morning for it.

I see our area of the Hudson Valley has a freeze warning for tonight and a friend further upstate had a dusting of snow this morning. The forecast is for a warm up though later in the week.

I miss the great apples and apple picking farms in NY, Macouns are my favorite apple. What kind of apples do you have? Your DH is a lucky man, but you knew that.

I think they are Empires. The tree has to be over a hundred years old, it's 100 feet high at least. Every fall when they are all down we fill the huge front bucket on our backhoe and DH brings them up in the back pasture for the deer.

The trees are all over, they eat well here. You can see the imprints in the long grass up in the back five where they bed down at night. None of our neighbors allow hunting on their land, so they know they are safe here

NY2gal wanted to see the horses...............

CCc girl: Beautiful! Thank you for the pics.

The two Belgians I saw last weekend were both the blonde color. I'll bet the dark is very pretty too.

I know there are horse shows almost every weekend in Syracuse at the Fairgrounds. I need to get over there sometime (they are free).

Default Misc memories from my trips to Miami/Miami Beach/Coral Gables area during WWII

This old Montana retiree remembers spending Dec, Jan and Feb (winter months from 1940>>1945) in the Miami/Miami Beach/Coral Gables area with his parents (both were born in 1900)......we'd leave our home in northern Illinois (Chicago area) right after Thanksgiving for my father's health reasons every winter. He passed in 1947,.........but as a kid born in early 1932, I have vivid memories of my time down there, particularly during the War Years. The number of Military Personel in the area was unbelievable!!

Examples: Seeing all the street lights painted Black on the side facing the ocean.
................Seeing anti-submarine ships patroling out in the ocean.
................Taking a few rides in the giant Goodyear Blimp that was moored at Watson Island.
................Remembering the Causeways: Venetian;..the original 79th Street, and a 3rd one (can't remember the name.).Remember a parade of some type on "Collins Ave".,
................Getting a tour (in 1941) of the giant Pan Am "China Clipper" amphibious Air Craft (aka known as the "FLYING BOAT), 12 Model "314s" built (by Boeing) between 1938/1941,.. powered by (4) 14 cylinder engines. Wing span of 152' x 106' long w/ a cabin wider than a Pullman RR Car. (so says my Dad's notes).
................Taking a full-day fishing trip in a 29 foot long Cabin Cruiser up "The Loxahatchee River"..It is one of only two rivers in Florida that are classified as "Wild & Scenic Rivers".
My Dad's working career (1921/1945) involved certain contracts with the Gov't and the Military, thus some good contacts......I was a luck young kid.

In California where their are deer there are also mountain lions, whose main prey are deer. I take it you don't have mountain lions in upstate New York?

That third causeway is the MacArthur Causeway and is the only access to Watson Island. It was, of course, named in honor of General Douglas MacArthur in 1942; prior to then it was simply called the County Causeway. BTW, the Venetian Causeway was closed earlier this year because it was found to be in disrepair and is scheduled to reopen again early next year.
