I am familiar with a slightly different version: "Old age and treachery will always win out over youth and enthusiasm."

The quote reminded me of this clip:

I hope everyone had a nice Valentine's Day. Or ... as I call it ... Single Awareness Day.

At least today I get to celebrate Half Price Chocolate Day.

I went with several friends to a Chinese buffet. We all had a good time, ate and talked a lot, re-connected with a woman friend from years ago.

Overall, it was maybe the best Valentine's Day ever.

Last week, two of my women friends died. One was 68, the other younger but don't know exact age.

Last night got a call another friend had a stroke and it doesn't sound good.

I'm almost 74. I guess "it" is getting closer.

Ouch! Big hugs NYgal2NC!! Please don't let all this horrible news bring you down. My cousin, who was only 5 days older than me died from a stroke 2 years ago, but I did my best to not have it make me think that my time was up. Instead, I used it to help me decide that it was time to do the things I wanted to do! Hugs!

Indeed. Ages of death are hard to figure and often don't seem to follow any rhyme or reason. But they are shocking when people die young - and of course "young" is a relative thing. I had several uncles who died in their 60's when I was in my 30's and they didn't seem young to me at the time. But now that I am 71 I have a different perspective.

I am one of 18 first cousins on my mothers side alone, the oldest of whom is now 73. Three of us have died, but they were not among the older group. Their deaths occurred in their 30's, 40's, and 50's respectively. The oldest five or six of us are still going strong.
