RIVERBIRD: You have been missed. Glad to hear from you. Your plans sound very nice and I hope you enjoy the film on Tuesday. I am sorry to hear of your eye problem. I have had glaucoma for 35+ years (it has responded to treatment I have had over the years) so I am particularly interested in hearing how your eye is doing.

Today's (Saturday 2/20) weather has been wonderful. To be able to leave the heavy coat in the car while I run in for glaucoma meeting this afternoon and then into grocery store for some things. Winter is not my friend. I used to like it quite a bit but I think that is because I enjoyed doing various activities outdoors in the snow. I told a friend recently I really need to be in FL for the whole month of February.

Got the onion sets planted and lettuce. Went to the feed store and they have tomatoes, peppers and such all out for sale. Too early. Plum trees and apple trees started to bloom. Have to wait and see if I get any fruit this year as we haven't had that many cold days and they need a chill period.

It feels more like April rather than February.
Been outside enjoying every minute of it.
I threw out some onion seeds out and I have what seems like thousands of seedlings. I've been transplanting them slowly each day - according to size.

My lettuce did great. My asparagus is shooting up, but its only the second year. I planted 3 tomato plants.

And my peach tree is also blooming. We've only had three very mild freezes so far. The water in my fountain barely froze and my lettuce survived.

ah, to be young again ~
Riverbird, I'm so glad you posted those 2 links. Beautiful!! The older I get the more impressed I am with opera and with the talent of opera singers. I also watched a follow-up youtube, Diana Damrau & Jonas Kaufmann singing part of La Traviata. The 2 of them and Domingo seated nearby were in a truly joyous mood.

I live in North TX and just went outside and stood barefoot on the paving stones. That's ridiculous on a mid-February night. Yesterday afternoon it was 81 degrees. I don't like anything about it, I'm a cold-weather gal at heart. Making it even more miserable is how dry it's been. We desperately need some precipitation..

The first flock of cranes (that I've noticed) flew north over Albuquerque this morning from Bosque del Apache... I guess they have decided it's spring. It has been in the 70s for a week and above freezing at night.

Why not ?

Phil didn't see his shadow this year indicating spring would come early.
I've also heard Canadian Geese while outside which means they're flying north.

Spring is coming early.

Besides Phil there are about 4-5 others that also didn't see their shadow.
