That's one thing great about a chat thread - changing the subject is allowed! Too many of the regular threads sound like chat threads, despite the prodigious efforts of the moderators.
Here's my new subject: people who post compulsively are a royal pain in the behind! I have in mind three here in the Retirement Forum. These people seem to think that if someone posts something, then they are obligated to respond to it. (Yes, I am exaggerating slightly, but just slightly). My theory is twofold: First, that in real life these people talk too much also, and second, that they must have been ignored as children (otherwise why would they have the compulsion to post excessively here?).
Maybe we just like to talk? Or, we may be in situations where we have to waste a little time doing something that doesn't make noise. I'm watching a ball game right now. Not into the game, but enjoy being with the kids. If I post on the internet I can watch the game, hang out with everyone, and yet have something that occupies my mind a little more than this ballgame. I also post quite a bit in the morning when I wake up, since it's something I can do while everyone else is sleeping.
Curious why this bothers you. I can understand being annoyed by people who like to talk in the real world since you can't avoid hearing them. But it's easy to avoid reading posts.
I have to side with Escort Rider. On a chat board, yes. Anything is fair game and as much or as little as one likes. However, an informationn board is different. People come to them searching to find and discuss relevant information; i.e. relocation, retirement, state specific, health, etc. Non-relevant threads both clutter them up and more, push the relevant information down on the board until it disappears into archives making it more difficult for people to find.
Now am I guilty of sometimes responding? Yes! But in the main what I usually try to do is gently and with a bit of humor point out what I just indicated above.

I think we've all rather posted quite a bit of trivia. If we really want relo information, we can get that in many hardcore ways on the Net or in direct phone calls to municipalities. As far as relo goes, perhaps 90% of responses have been opinions and impressions, not likely to strongly sway anyone to decide a relo one way or another. If you look at the many retirement thread titles, the only hardcore info is perhaps in financials, but even that is opinion. Anyone would be a fool to take opinion on any forum as bedrock fact. Most retirees with time on their hands enjoy the trivia of most threads, and those who do not enjoy it can simply not engage. The big question is why they continue to do so, and continue to take their precious daily time to criticize? Must be some degree of boredom....

LOL Curmudgeon, you crack me up--how many "nonrelevant" threads have you started? Here are a few of yours that I particularly loved. Sure hope this doesn't mean you intend to stop creating these threads because boy oh boy, I enjoyed these classics. And they did a great job of lightening the mood on a few days when this forum got a little heavy:
"OK guys. I think we need our own Grumpy Old Men sub-forum."
"Nuff said?" (A Memorial Day cartoon that had nothing to do with retirement whatsoever.)
"Fun in retirement. We all need some." (A joke about wearing a Viet Nam Vet Hat to Wal-Mart)
"Hmm. Now we smell funny!"
"To those who like cruises..."
"My thought for the day for retirees"
"What are you afraid of" (Asks the highly important question "Are you afraid of becoming a geezer or a crone?")
"The Green Thing" (Another joke thread)
"Older Crowd ~ Just for fun!" (Yet another joke thread)
"As a senior, what do you miss about the "old" days?"
"They made a sign just for me!" (Joke thread.)
Not a joke thread, but I'd also like to point out "True or False ~ Life is too short to live with toxic people whether or not they're related!" was about a personal issue in your family. If you weren't a regular on this forum it would have been moved to the Relationships forum. I'm glad we were here to be supportive of you, and gad you started that thread. Food for thought, before you condemn others.
