Ran around doing errands today with NO boots or gloves - had a jacket on but unzipped. Nice There were 2 teenagers in a store with flip flops and longer shorts on - huh? That was pushing it. In another couple of weeks people will be running around half naked.
Switched out winter stuff for spring/summer clothes and got rid of 3-33 gal trash bags ready to donate to Disabled Vets. Now I'm hitting the shoes - hard to let go of those.
There is a new thread in the Economics Forum entitled "The great senior housing sell off". It's a link to a Chicago Tribune article which contains an interview with an urban planning professor who thinks that there will be a glut of houses on the market by the end of the decade as boomers reach their late 60's and put their homes on the market in order to downsize. He believes that there will not be enough buyers for those houses. Worth a look if that's a topic which interests you.
Interesting. I have been saying that on CD for the past several years. I believe he is right. That is why anyone wanting to downsize and sell should, imo, do it now. But it is difficult to find retirement-size housing, esp on one floor if one wants that, that is for sale.
I go to a number of tag sales (I am trying to restrain myself because I am really not buying any more stuff). So many of them are by a retired couple who are "downsizing" and/or moving in retirement. The one I went to this morning (I only bought a small rack ) was just that: retirees in an enormous posh colonial (probably 6 to 8 bedrooms told me they were both downsizing and moving to a "smaller" place. Of course some think that going from 5,000 sf to 2500 sf is downsizing.
Suitable housing for aging boomers in areas with necessary amenities is going to be hot. By the same token, lots of young couples either cannot get a mortgage or for their first house want something new. Many are custom building rather than buying houses with outmoded features. There will soon be a glut of housing owned by boomers and their parents trying to get sold.

So you've actually shed the 20 layers of winter stuff and your neighbors recognize you again?
You are ahead of us in NEng. We've had a couple of beautiful days, no snow on the ground or looming, but underneath the sun is a cold breeze. Not giving up the winter stuff yet.
I'm in awe of how much you're getting rid of. I have been dumping old files, computer files, more knickkacks (not that I had that many). Yesterday took two bags to goodwill. The main floor is clean, rid of all nonessentials except for extra cookware i will be reluctant to part with but should, since the duplicates fall in the "cast iron" category, lol.
Upstairs is being renovated. All the boxes of stored stuff are under cover, impossible to get at till the renovations are done. So I will probably have to wear winter clothes (which are downstairs) till June.
I had been storing clothing and linens in those plastic tubs with lids from Staples. When packed full they weigh a ton, impossible for me to pick up. So I've been buying the white bankers boxes with lids in packs of 10, labeling them (summer tops or summer jackets, etc) and whatever doesn't fit into its own box gets tossed. I'm not sure those plastic tubs are useful to me at all since anything packed in them makes them impossible to move, the weight really adds up. I may give the 20 or so that I have to the kids.
Just an aside - I just posted the above, having first read a bunch of the latest previous posts. After I posted I saw perhaps 6 posts I hadn't seen minutes earlier. Does this happen with anyone else? Is it my browser or some kind of delayed timing on CD's part?

I use these rubber tubs as well and yes, they get very heavy. I have to open them, grab about half the stuff, run up 3 levels and then run back down for the rest. This process takes a while but I do get a work out. I like the rubber though - keeps things dry and the rubber doesn't absorb any musty odors.
I was especially glad I use them when my laundry hot water hose burst (while I was at work) and there was water everywhere. The drain couldn't keep up with the water flow and there was water everywhere. The clothes were all saved. Lesson learned.
