Good to change the subject, lol. I took up too much space on my rant - nice to talk about hot chocolate.

Spent today running around town with my step-son. We were hauling fallen tree limbs to his brush pile at his cabin. My wife and I purchased a boat. Step-son and I will do a test run tomorrow. Wife has to work all day, Open House. Probably haul some more tree limbs as well.

Ani, fWIW I found the discussion on your roof very interesting and hope you keep us posted as it proceeds. hopefully they will get smart about approvals now that you've explained the urgency. Architectural review boards, what a pain in the buttinski they can be sometimes.

Woke up at 4:30 for some reason so since I was up I went out to do my usual circuit. I saw 6-8 other people out at this hour. What's up with that? Usually if i wake up at some crazy early hour I'm out walking on my own because the rest of the world is asleep. Wonder if something happened to wake everyone up early today?

It's funny how insomnia isn't the big deal it used to be. In my working days it could ruin my whole day if i found myself awake and up in the middle of the night. Now it just means my mid day nap will hit a little earlier.

Does anyone remember the 1963 film "Captain Newman, M.D."? Gregory Peck plays an Air Force psychiatrist during World War II, with Angie Dickinson as co-star. There was a special 50th anniversary screening of it last night followed by a Q and A with Angie Dickinson, now 81 years old. She is still pretty sharp. She didn't look 81 to me. Great movie, I thought - well written and well acted. Tony Curtis and Robert Duvall are also in it. No "senior price" for this special event - tickets were $13 - although seniors were heavily represented in the audience.

Thank you, Caladium! Kind of embarrassed about that rant . . . no need to spill it all here, but yes, I am hoping things will be resolved today.

Our forecast is 70% chance of thunderstorms from today through Sunday, so it doesn't look like I will be getting the roof taken care of regardless of getting the permit "approved."

However, I will call them shortly and see if anyone has made progress . . .

I remember it! My Dad and I used to watch every WWII movie we could find . . . but I didn't see it when it first aired on the big screen. We watched it on TV.

One of the little quirky things I quickly discovered about my hubby was that he, also, really likes WWII movies. So we find them late at night and sit up and watch them when we can! I don't think we have seen this one together, tho.

How neat to see Angie Dickinson in person . . . can't believe she is 81. Time marches on . . .

Agreed. It just means that I have a different group to play scrabble with. And I get to enjoy the moonflowers. The only problem is that if I'm up, I usually have a snack. On the up side, Boogie takes a stroll outdoors and doesn't wake me so early the next morning.

I decided today, after a pleasant inventory, that I will never have to buy clothing again.

I like hearing all of the news. Nothing is too trivial or mundane...... not that I have heard anything such so far. I need a handyman to change some lightbulbs. I would pay her well. I miss my ladder.

I somehow thought your cabin was a nice private mountain retreat, sorry to hear it's HOA.
Corporate rules is one of the big reasons I would never buy into an HOA community, no matter how nice.
I don't do well with boards and the inevitable BS.

I hope you get that roof up there soon. You could be getting moisture in under the roof, and thus mild rot or mold and the need to rip off the under-boards.

Mine was redone in a dry spell before spring, and thank goodness, because all it did was rain nonstop all spring.

No - we specifically bought in a gated community 20 years ago b/c we were living 1000 miles away in KS and felt that with summer homes being the target of robbers so often - we needed the back up of security. Plus I am here alone a lot when the "summer people" are gone and I like knowing in case of emergency, there are folks at the guard house.

However, when we bought, there were very few rules at all. Just some covenants about the smallest size the first level of the house had to be . . . nothing much else other than setbacks, etc. Now it is a 1/2 in thick book of regs, lol.

Yes, we will be replacing the entire roof. It is not constructed like most roofs -- as it is an octagonal house, so the roof has all these angles -- and no attic space. So we will be tearing the whole thing off and replacing the entire ceiling on the inside, as well. The good thing is - it can be done in sections (1/8 section at a time). The bad thing is . . . it is very expensive to do, lol. But I have been planning this for a long time . . . it will be great to have all new fascia, outer beams - the whole thing. I am adding a covered entrance . . . wish I could add a whole carport.

I would sell and get myself the mini-farm of my dreams but I feel very secure here. Nothing is engraved in stone, tho. We have nearly an acre and I dream of creating a park like garden below us with a labyrinth, to use as a drumming circle and for meditation. I don't know how that would go over with the neighbors, tho, lololo.

A lot of things up in the air these days with us!!!
