Oh my! I saw an old reel of that film years ago in college! I can't believe you found it playing somewhere (or got a copy of it for home viewing).

It is a classic!

Amazon sells it; Netflix has it available on disc. Does anyone actually go to a theater anymore? The last time I went was 2000 when I saw a double feature at the theater at the Detroit Art Museum. I saw two excellent Hungarian films, The Outpost and another whose title I don't recall about Russians coming to Hungary in the Summer of Freedom (1989) for the freedom and opportunity. That was quite a summer. I was there with my wife and her second cousin who had been born there and fled during the 1956 uprising. The borders were unguarded; we fired machineguns at a technical college. The people were in a state of exhilaration. It's so sad that they backed off, but it's still better than being under the boot heel of the Reds.

Are you familiar with the Hungarian Uprising? There's a great movie that has never been released in the US, but Amazon has a no region edition. It's not cheap, but it's worth every penny. The subtitles are fuzzy in the trailer, but they're on the disc. This is the best movie I've seen in a long time.

I'm really on a roll against the Bolsheviks today.

Great pic! That's exactly when my mother was attending Miami High!

I used to love going to the OB Parade in downtown Miami. It's a shame they discontinued it once the TV contract ended. It was a great tradition for over 65 years.

Not necessarily; it depends upon where one lives. Public transportation has been expanding down here; several cities have even begun free trolley service, including Coral Gables and Miami Beach. And of course, Brickell & downtown Miami have the People Mover and the Metro.

While in the past the the trolley services in Miami Beach have been limited for the most part to the main tourist areas of South Beach, they are now beginning to offer service in North Beach and Normandy Isle as well. In fact, there will be a stop right outside my building's front door. Here's a short video on the new service, as well as the city's press release:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 16, 2014

Miami Beach Begins Free Trolley Service in North Beach -- Getting Around North Beach Just Became Easier --Miami Beach, FL –

On October 29, hop aboard and let the city do the driving. The City of Miami Beach launches its second free trolley route — the North Beach loop — which makes numerous stops from 65 Street north to 88 Street, and west to Normandy Isle. The North Beach loop connects residents and visitors to pharmacies, restaurants, shops, beaches, parks and many other points of interest in the North Beach area. It will also provide a convenient connection to regional transit, connecting to seven Miami- Dade Transit routes. The trolley will operate Monday through Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to midnight, 365 days of the year.

“We hope residents will take full advantage of this free, alternative mode to get around their neighborhood, and look forward to offering our many visitors a convenient way to explore the beauty of North Beach and all of its many cultural, culinary and natural offerings,” said Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine.

The trolley has a capacity of 32 passengers and perks include free WiFi, an external bike rack, and real time tracking and next bus information through the City’s mobile application, Miami Beach e-Gov, available on Google and Apple stores. Four trolleys will be in service at all times, and riders can expect to wait approximately 10 minutes for a ride at any stop.

We are committed to providing excellent public service and safety to all who live, work and play in our vibrant, tropical, historic community. “North Beach has been a historically underserved part of our city, but this administration with full support of our mayor and commissioners, is changing the tide,” added Miami Beach City Manager Jimmy L. Morales. “The North Beach Loop is just one of the many exciting revitalization efforts happening in North Beach.”

The North Beach loop connects with the following Miami-Dade Transit routes: 120, S, H, L, 117, 115 and 79. Funding for the North Beach loop service is made possible by a Florida Department of Transportation grant and the Miami Beach Quality of Life for Transportation Resort Tax.The cost to operate this service is approximately $1.6 million a year.

Oh no. I am so sorry.

Too young, I am sure. So unfair.

Last night the grandkids came to stay overnight with us. Our house is set up with our master suite on one side and guest rooms on the other side, too far away for a two and five year old by themselves. Our solution was just too much fun!

Bedtime stories by flashlight are the best!

Aah, Gandalara, on the backs of the Valkyries she flies to the Summerland, smiling into the sun, whole and pain free. Waving to you, never to be forgotten, remember the joy and the love.
