AZdesertbrat, What an experience that was for you. Ten to one there is a mental health issue. Just because you were the second 'hit' is a huge flag. Somewhere in her rational part of mind she must have known she needed help & was actually asking for it.
How can I guess this? My son is bipolar & that's something he would have done to go to the crisis unit so he could get help.
I'm sure there's a BIG "mental health issue" going on with that lady. I felt sorry for her, in a way, but she was so nasty it wasn't easy, till later. I hope she gets the help she needs. Since she came into the store in a bathrobe and no shoes I'm pretty sure she probably needed those clothes but, no dice!
I do hope this lady stays farther north in Arizona, like the Verde Valley where AZDesertBrat lives and it is cooler. I am down here in the Phoenix area and it is very hard on the homeless folks in the summer heat. Hopefully someone will be able to help her. Down here, we have caseworkers drive around to check up on known homeless people with health issues who are out on the streets, delivering ice-cold water and seeing if they want to come in to a shelter.
Today was my final class. I resume in July for the summer session with new participants. I have to decide what to do with two whole weeks completely off...probably reconnect with friends and give the house a thorough cleaning. Maine is back in the picture this summer...north of areas crowded in summer. Anyone else headed that way?
For the lovely people who comforted me in the loss of my Mimsy.
I was crying almost all the time. Decided that had to stop. So I went to the SPCA today. They have 330 cats for adoption. A couple of generics and quite a few little "kids". And plenty in between.
Hard to choose. But I picked one out. Her name is Tessa but since I found her on Wednesday her name is Wendy. I'll get her Saturday.
Not to change the subject, but something just "came back" to me today about our generation...the generation of the multi-volume Encyclopedia! Our childhoods were in the era of "every child needs a good set." These were expensive for many families, only my middle-class wealthy friends at school had them and were the envy of those who didn't. It's hard to believe, though we did, that kids opened these real books to look up anything and everything for our class assignments...or we had to trek to the library where the A–XYZ set was under "reference" and could not be checked out. Slaving away over a B volume.... Do they make book encyclopedia anymore?? Does anyone still own a set?
NYgal2NC - So sorry about your beloved Mimsy crossing that Rainbow bridge....how old is the "new" kitty? My daughter and SIL had a similar naming experience - they found a stray while sitting in the rocking chairs on the front porch of a Cracker Barrel [after dinner] and named the cat Cracker.

LOL..we had a set in my family. Funk & Wagnall's. It was sold at the supermarket..one new volume each week. And yes, we used them for school assignments.
