Yeah, that! Now our meds are being taken off automatic refill. I'm sure it's because they hope us old retirees will forget to order refills and save them some money.

I would suspect that if the M.D. needs to keep re-prescribing a med to a patient in order for them to keep taking it, that the Pharmaceuticals are in cahoots with the AMA---for making people have to go to their doctor more often (to get the presrcription)...is this the case?

No. Ther prescriptionsn are written for a yeasr's worth of quarterly, three-month refills. It just means we have to personally order the refills every quarter rather than having them refilled by "automatic pilot."

Is it all drugstores, or just Walgreens?
Call/use the computer ourselves. All drugstores. Pharma's benefit is that many might forget or not know how to navigate the system. That could save them bundles.

The Rx laws vary state to state. Here in Florida - your doctor can give you a prescription for a year - unless you're dealing with controlled substances (narcotics). Then I think you need a new Rx every 3 months. And your doctor will require an appointment every 3 months. That has more to do with law enforcement and narcotics than it has to do with drug companies and the medical profession.
Also - with some drugs - like statins - you're supposed to get certain blood work every 6 months. So - if a doctor is trying to stay on top of things - he or she might only give you an Rx for 6 months - and make sure you get the blood tests before he or she refills the Rx. Robyn

There are lots of places that won't do auto-refills. Costco is one of them. And it has great deals with my drug company - FlexScripts. So it's worth my while to pick up the phone once a month and order refills (I save > $200/month). Robyn

After the first prscription, subsequent refills picked up at even participating, local pharmacies require steep co-pays. They get ya comin' 'n goin'!
