well, i just checked and it's still 14.8% because it's calculating based on the period 1/1/2011 to 9/31/2011.

the balance on 9/31 was 43k and the balance now is 50k, so i'm sure the percentage is better than 15% in the hole....

I guarantee he's got bonds and possibly precious metal funds and foreign currency. Bonds have been on a tear this year because of low interest rates, USTreasuries in particular. Usually when one asset class rises, another suffers. Today is an anomaly with bonds, gold, currencies and equities up. Good day in the market for all but the dollar.
