Maybe the answer to feeling overwhelmed with wordly concerns is simply to stop thinking about the things we can't do a darn thing about . . . and figuring out what we can do in our own neighborhoods.
I do think this is the answer. Listening to the news I get depressed and feel overwhelmed some days. But if I take care of my own little neighborhood by volunteering or getting involved, then I feel like I am actually contributing something. As I get older, it makes sense to me that if we all made our own little corners of the world better instead of trying to invade or change other places, we might all be better off.

If you don't read the newspaper you are uninformed, if you do read the newspaper you are most likely misinformed. - Mark Twain

I think after retiring 2 years ago I've gotten over feeling guilty that I'm not waking up at 5 and going to the office at 7.

Not feeling guilty that I don't have a darned thing to do and it's fun to just relax and watch the clouds drift by.

After my heart attack the doc told me to stay away from all politics to keep my blood pressure down, and sure enough, I watch the news (or read it on a news web site) and my blood pressure skyrockets..

Week in week out month in month out the arguing between Democrats and Republicans never changes, faces might be different but the rhetoric remains the same...

What will be will be, at my age ain't going to effect changes in anything anymore.

I'll let my kids and grand-kids speak for me...

Stop being a nit picker everybody has a different story for every thread. Embellishment is a natural occurrence in retirement.
