To the OP, yes I think the situation will get tougher as the years go on for seniors. We know some people close to retirement that don't have much saved and haven't got much if anything of a retirement plan. According to a recent survey of the pastors in my denomination, 85% plan on working past 65. A lot of it is people who want to keep up the same lifestyle, and not cut back in retirement. My wife and I have already cut back and are trying to cut more. I think what will happen is what is happening right now, more people living under the same roof. The savings are huge. This is how the poorest get along. They have a house full, since most of them cannot afford their own home.

We are the only industrialized country that does not provide GOVERNMENT Health Care and Old Age Pension. Makes me wonder why we need Government if it can not provide the basics

I did not call ANYONE a fool, or an old fool. I was quoting very respected sources who have stated that age alone and of itself does not impart any noble or laudable bennifits, while recognising that age CAN bring experence and perhaps even wisdom.

If you want to select yourself as one who has not benefited in such a way, have at it, but I do not think that calling 95% of this forum fools is warranted.

And I will thank you for not attempting to put words in my mouth, even as badly as that was attempted.

Again, please refrain from trying to impart that I have said things I have not said (And read above)

That is not true, as you yourself indicate below. You remarked that with only a 3% return you would have $400,000... and that you will not receive $400K in benefits before your death. (And I think that MOST people have had a MUCH better than 3% return in that time)

SO WHICH IS IT? You CANNOT HAVE IT BOTH WAYS (Much less attempt to use both as arguing points!)

Note: See underlined passages to reflect this.

Oh, I have not forgotten, That should be apparent to YOU that not only would WE get that money we SEE being stolen, but that TWICE THAT would be available.

As to the Employer not paying it... if that were true you would not be receiving your current paycheck... Because they ARE voluntarily paying you "That amount" just not directly.

ANNND that amount (2x what you SEE being taken) would be available for you to spend, or invest and try to get more than 3% on...

What you spend it on is your business.

See above. Make up your mind WHICH argument you are going to try to use... You Would have MORE, or you would have LESS...

See above. Make up your mind WHICH argument you are going to try to use... You Would have MORE, or you would have LESS...

Annnd here we get to the crux of them matter. I Am AGAINST Government enforced wealth distrubution. You are apparently FOR this socialist measure.

In addition to despising the very THOUGHT of this... it lets the government get it's sticky, greedy little paws on the money FIRST (And WHO among us doesn't believe in government inefficiency)

I write a check to St Jude Every year. I would MUCH RATHER have that money the government steals, and I assure you, a portion of that money would be going DIRECTLY to those who NEED it. Rather than being spent to operate a engorged Government.

MORE GOOD COULD BE DONE DIRECTLY.
Disagree?

If it were not true, Organizations such as the salvation army would not exist!

Depends on the situation:
Save money,
Have more funds available as I was speaking about in the passage above etc.

Honestly I have not asked them if they receive, or intend to receive it.
(And I can't speak fr my grandfather, but I know that my father would vote to do away with it)

BOTH of them have enough assets (Although my Dads are being hit with a divorce it's still adequate without assistance given his low consumption lifestyle)... I'll be providing housing within the year however, not because he needs the assistance, but because THAT'S HOW IT'S DONE... NOT THROUGH GOVERNMENT.

HIS mother did not have enough, due to her husband (A dark topic) and the family took care of her...
She raised good kids. That's on you.

IF they had it... I'd be TOTALLY WITH YOU to give it back to you... in one big chunk.

What you REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE is that it was STOLEN from you... AND IS NOT THERE!

What YOU are doing is the equavalaen of knocking on my door and telling me that you were robbed 32 years ago, and "Just because" you want ME to give your money WITH INTEREST... even though I wasn't even alive then!

I have asked continually:
SOMEONE EXPLAIN TO ME HOW THIS IS MORAL, RIGHT, OR IN ANY WAY NOT ABSURD!

You were stolen from. I have been stolen from.
HOW is it right to steal from others to get our month back?

No, when people are LIED to... and the Government says "It's OK, we will provide"
People blindly listen "Because it'll be there"

But it's lies, it was stolen, and it won't

I just want us to face the truth and try to fix it.

But, as I have said, you would rather say:
"I don't care, I need money, you should give it to me!"

So, with this... you ENCOURAGE the STEALING OF people's money to give to you? (Because, as we know, the 'lockbox' has been raided)

IF YOU ARE TO BELIEVED: You should of screamed louder, and more... so you could have your $400,000+

Tell that to my Parents and Grandparents... Teachers and an Engineer.
THEY MANAGED... (And raised 3 kids each, some with medical needs.)

Mindless, pointless absurdity to try to 'kneejerk' an emotional response...

OMG, Mr CAPS, is a bit of a pressure cooker on the subject. Anybody lose a soapbox?

The United States government does provide an old age pension. It's called Social Security and the system works quite well.

...that's funded primarily by a FICA tax.
