It has gotten much worse now with the cartels bringing girls to work in the clubs, with day shift in many clubs being nothing but brothel-time. I'm glad to be out of it now. It sure was lucrative in its time and I don't regret a MOMENT. I only wish I had discovered the adventure much sooner in life. I would have moved to a large, prosperous city and done it full time and be a millionaire many times over by now. Oh well.
I was stationed at Fort Bliss back in the dawn of time, being from the Northeast it was a major shock to my system, particularly in January when daytime temps hit 70. I remember all the action being in Juarez. I don't recall many places on the American side. I do remember that many of the women were physically very beautiful, but the legal prostitution on the Mexican side was very corrupting. It was hard to reconcile in my mind how a culture could be overwhelmingly Catholic, family centered, etc. on one hand and pimp their daughters on the other. Perhaps poverty can drive you to do strange things. Aside from that, what you read in the paper these days about Juarez, it must be a real hell hole down there now. No need to ever return that way, all the Mexicans have moved here.

Ah, yes. Fort Bliss. I remember it well (1966) as the most inappropriately named installation in the military's inventory.

Interesting, I had not made that connection! I did have a few interesting experiences, but I don't mean slumming the bars in Juarez! One thing I did enjoy was going out to Dog Canyon, NM and scaling the side of a mountain. Amazing at 8,000 feet in the desert how far you can see.

I have worn out several bathing suits. The other day I suddenly realized I really don't like pants, so I am buying pretty causal dresses and wearing them in the Summer with sandals.

I still wear capri pants when I work in the yard for obvious reasons, but when I am in the house, I become like the Gabor sister in Green Acres. I like long, loose and flowing and sometimes barefooted.

In the Winter, I change to mostly pant suits. I hate hose!

I actually got to move off base and lived in an apartment in one of the "Presidential" streets off Dyer Ave.

I'm not retired yet, and I'm in my late 50s.

I dress more carefully and am more fastidious than at any other time in my life.

Since I lost a bit of weight and now back to the trim body I had when I was in college, I like to wear nice clothes. My personal style is rather conservative ... I gave up wearing jeans when I turned 50 and I almost never wear running shoes or sneakers unless I'm at the gym or actually jogging. I like to wear clean pressed khaki pants and oxford button-down collar long sleeve shirts. I have some beautiful business suits and sometimes I'll wear a tweed blazer. I am clean shaven and I shave and groom myself everyday. I wear my hair rather short.

Most important for middle-aged and older guys: pay careful attention to eyebrows, nose hairs and ear hairs. Groom yourself! Just because you're older and perhaps "no longer on the market" means you should let yourself go ...
