I am newly retired (Jan 2012) and the place i'am in now is convenient, safe, lower cost (condo) and the best great neighbors, I don't think i'am going anywhere.
It really depends on how long we live, and in what state of health, doesn't it? We'll have to sell our new place in Florida if and when we get too old, sick or frail to make the trip down in winter. At that point we'll need to be in Canada to be close to our medical system.
And we'll have sold our country cottage by then, since we won't be able to drive to it or maintain it.
So we'll be left with our condo here in the city, and hopefully we can stay here, until we end up in an old folks home or something similar. If we last that long. Then again, we might sell our city condo and take some of the money and whoop it up, who knwos?

I will move a bunch, and probably end up back where I started (If I live long enough to make the circle).
I do have GREAT neighbors (no barking dogs, but plenty of coyotes) and a spectacular view... is just that $6,600 property tax check I have to write tomorrow (for 6 months).
The bears, cougars, and bobcats are pretty quiet, I appreciate that.
I am now thinking I will live in Colorado in retirement and if need be, move to a CCRC (in Vermont) and that will be it. If I don't move to CO, I will stay in my current house until taken out feet first or going to said CCRC, so at most, I'll live in two more places, at least, one or no more.
We are in our 2nd home since retiring and thinking of moving again. The term 'final home' creeps me out, it's like parking yourself somewhere and waiting for death to creep in.
Will either stay where we are (great location, lots of amenities, but some downsides) or move to another state. Maybe when the grandkids are older. Starting over in a new location without family or friends is the deterrent. If we stay "here" it may not be in this particular house as we get older and older. Though we love the house the property is a lot to take care of. I actually had a fleeting dream last night in which I had an epiphany: stay put.
I am guessing a 50% chance of just one place, 30% chance of two places, 20% chance of more than two. I am not counting snowbirding as a different place I live. I think there is a reasonably good chance I will spend between one and five months in FL in the winter, but probably not straight through.
