Just venting a little here.

I have a PT driving job at North Carolina's most exclusive golf resort.

Why is it that some people , not everyone assumes that because you drive them to the airport or shuttle them around the golf resort that you are somehow not worthy of a kind word.
It really ticks me off that just because I am a driver it's my duty to lug their golf bags and suit cases on and off the vehicles without even a thank you.

I do this job because it is better than sitting home and I also get to play golf on the most expensive courses in NC for next to nothing.

Yes I know you paid a lot of money to stay and golf here but did you have to leave your manners back home when you boarded the plane?

Just get used to it. People with a lot of money think that they are better than you. You're not a slave in their minds, but not on "their level". In fact, I wish I could get a job like yours, so I'd consider myself fortunate and just take rudeness as part of the job. This is pretty typical of everyone who works in a job that serves the public. And rudeness isn't just rich people. You can get plenty of that from people of all socio-economic groups. Like I said, I'd love to have that job and be able to play the fancy golf course.

I agree with "get used to it". I was paying for expensive season tickets for major league baseball and pro football tickets in San Diego until I realized I could watch the the games for free in exchange for answering questions and otherwise dealing with sometimes upset people as an usher. The Padres were so bad that I couldn't blame them for being pissed off.

If you're not already doing it, you might try treating them as you'd like to be treated. Throw out a kind word or two, wish them luck with their game, offer some pointers about the course, etc. Maybe some will reciprocate back or not. In any case, you'll know you've made the effort to be helpful.

I already do that. Some guys will give you a $20 for a 2 minute ride from the hotel to the club house and others expect you to load their clubs and luggage for a 1 hour ride to the hotel and won't even say thanks. I pray for rain for those guys.

Ugh, I can imagine how frustrating this is. Although my job is FT I deal with all socio-economic levels of people. When they continually don't say please and thank you, I have the luxury of telling them about it. Some don't mind and some do... too bad.

In an ideal world, everyone would exhibit the good manners of good breeding at all times and to all people regardless of social status. No one would omit saying "please" and "thank you". Of course we do not live in such a world. To the OP: Try to keep in mind that you are being paid to do the job you are doing. That does not excuse people to whom you are rendering services for being rude, not at all, but it may make it easier for you to accept the imperfections. If you are stewing about it, you are only harming yourself. I would say try to let go of the resentment.

I think they think it's part of the job you get paid to do. That may be a misperception on their part, but that's what they think. The guys who do curbside check-in at the airport don't get thanked. They do have a way of letting you know that you're supposed to tip them, I noticed. Maybe you should get yourself an m.o. so your passengers don't take the extras for granted.
