Note that I think it is actually more energy efficient (at least in Florida) to keep the house at a reasonable temp all the time than allowing the house to get really hot and humid and then trying to cool it. Not to mention that high humidity levels can cause problems with mold/mildew - etc. I remember when we bought our last condo in Miami. It hadn't been lived in (was new). It took the A/C almost 2 days to cool the place down and dry it out. Robyn
oh, you are so right, I grandaughters X had a heating and airconditioning business and he told us not to play with the thermastat or to only adjust it a few degrees. We keep the day temp at about 77 and the night 74. In the winter we keep the days at 70 and the night 66. About a week ago our power went off for a few minutes. Hubby forgot to re-set the thermastat. It went to 84 immediately. When he realized what he had forgotten to do, he set it at 75. That was about 4pm, when we went to bed it still had not cooled down to 74. I think it was still about 78.

Current weather patterns are making shambles of local and state government efforts to keep the poor elderly and otherwise comfortable in a pattern of increasingly extreme weather patterns. It is hard to factor in to retirement planning but I know folks who are being pushed close to the edge.

I don't know about people who live in other areas of the country. But it's normal hot in Florida now. Always is hot in the summer. Highs of about 90 all of July/August and most of September here at the coast. Hotter inland. Robyn
