I love reading this thread even though I'm married.
I just wanted to add to the packing post that I used all my towels and t-shirts to wrap breakables in. It saved on buying lots of packaging material for the boxes.
And get those bins with the flat fold and lock tops for seasonal things, like Christmas decorations. They double as storage and packing containers. They're also great for taking along in the car when you move to the new place.

The bins are great because you can keep and use them later.
In general, if you are using a professional mover, they like the standard size cardboard boxes because they fit together better in the truck. Packing the truck tightly (whether by movers or by yourself) is important, because things don't slide around and get broken.) I've moved 9 times--only one item ever broken!

A few photos, finally
Hi Everyone,
I promised some photos, but my old camera died, and I JUST got a new one, and haven't even read the manual yet, however, I did try it out and got a few photos of the mobile home park in Santa Cruz that I'm in. Just a few. I have to really get outside on the weekend during the day -- this was at 6:30 p.m. at night.
It's hard to tell from these photos, because I didn't realize I had them so far away. But you can get a little idea of it. I will also do the "before and after" photos, only I have not had ANY time to do an "after," so the "befores" are pretty awful!!
I also broke the meniscus in my right knee and am now a bit debilitated. It looks like moving into a 55+ park was timed just right. It's hard to walk, and the surgeon said he didn't know if surgery would make a big difference -- so I got a cortisone shot for now. It's sore when I walk and all, so my hiking is down to nothing at the moment. Thank goodness I moved next to the beach -- looks like my outside moments may now be sitting on the sand, under an umbrella, with sunglasses and sunblock, watching the ocean! Okay, I guess that's not too bad....
Anyway, here's a few I tried to get tonight:
The front of my place:
View of the pool from my deck -- I actually like this location because it feels very resort-like:
A view of the mobile "cottages" near me. Notice the very clean street, mountains in the background, the palm tree, and the clear blue skies. I think I made the right choice!
It absolutely looks great, am very happy for you Wisteria, and Nancy, you have a lot to look forward to, can't wait to see your pictures too, once you settle in <G>. Much happiness to you both and Wisteria, keep those pictures coming (and good luck w/ your knee!).
THANKS SO MUCH for the photos..... looking forward to more of the park and neighborhood
Regarding a torn meniscus..... same thing happened to me just 4 months before my 60th birthday; in fact it was the main reason why I retired when I turned 60!
But, from research on the internet, I learned a lot about knees/arthritis/inflammation/nutrition in the following years ~ and I have managed to survive the torn meniscus WITHOUT SURGERY and without drugs and without pain ~ by following a non-inflammatory diet and minimal exercise to keep the supporting muscles strong and taking a high quality glucosamine/chondroiten supplement
