Well, then, loveautumn & plantlover - have you thought of Loveland, CO? Lots of retired people. Close to Ft Collins (3-4 mi) where there is a college; mountains, great weather (some snow in winter)

Smaller "cottages" Think about it.

I will have to check into Loveland. I would love to retire to a "dry" area. I've had enough of high humidity, long hot summers, and hurricanes. If you have any more info about the small cottages, could you post a link?

CO is dry. The "cottages" I referred to are really regular smaller homes, many of which are 1 level, but they are cute.

Colorado Real Estate Property, MLS Listings and Realtor Resource - ColoProperty.com This is the site I've been using for the Ft Collins/Loveland area.

I was looking online at housing in Canon City, and there were little bungalows in good price ranges, and the elevation was good (I also love the dry).

I think it's also near the Super Max prison (Florence, I think) where all the really bad guys are kept. If they (terrorists) ever tried to get the middle eastern bad guys out, yikes. Too close for comfort.

Canon City is in a beautiful area though.

Escapees are a danger but so are some parolees. They start out from the prison. I went to college 10 miles from a state prison. Released parolees created a crime bump. The bad ones made a beeline looking for naive kids to prey on.

I would not choose a location near a prison. Old women are easy prey.

Canon City is a pretty area. But there are a lot of other pretty areas in CO.
