When Knoxgarden was posting, those were the days of real camaraderie on CD Retirement. There was a nice feeling among women posters. Everyone was trying to help everyone, and posting with congeniality. She gave a lot of herself in explaining about Knoxville and I do miss her.

Must add...this is one Retirement thread that remains supportive, helpful, and without criticism. I think that is a tribute to the character of the posters posting here.

I'm getting increasingly close to my big move to Tucson. I found a realtor who buys for investors, and I was recently offered $70k cash for my townhouse, but I told her I didn't want to move until Fall. But, I'm moving somewhere where the real estate prices are higher! I will only settle for a cash to cash purchase, with no mortgage! I look at the RE sites every week, and I see it will be doable. Much easier for someone like myself, who's a minimalist!

One of the big pluses: proximity to Mexico/Nogales!

I just got on Medicare 4/1, went with an Aetna Medicare Advantage Plan, and it took me 5 weeks just to see my primary Dr., and 2 weeks for him to decided upon a COPD med for me.

I told my Doctor: When I move to Tucson, I won't need to jump thru these hoops anymore! I'll merely go across the Border to the first pharmacy and buy whatever COPD med I wish to buy, and no prescription needed!

Hello all: Just returned from a harrowing trip to Columbia MO. Seems like everything went wrong from the get go. My rental car, a tiny Fiat from Budget made me nervous the whole trip. As soon as I got into the car, a major rainstorm hit the lot and the gate going out was locked with no electricity. Always looking in back to see if someone was going to plow into me. Then, wherever I drove, it was usually the wrong way. The GPS worked (most of the time) but it would have been better to have had a companion instead. The hotel (Ramada) was at the intersection of 3 major expressways, and I never was on the right one. Their coffee machine was out the first morning. The TV never worked right. My daughter's tablet never captured their wifi so I was stuck for 3 days with no internet. No maps. No email. No directions. Just drove around trying to find stuff. Made me very tired and I felt too old to be doing this.

I did find a fabulous library, far better than anything I have ever seen. Also saw the Osher building but was exhausted that day and never went in. Found the Senior Center, not on a good side of town. Drove into downtown and saw all the funky little stores. Got to Columbia Mall and shopped a little. Barnes and Nobel was just like ours. I did see wonderful gardens at each house with winding streets, no cookie cutter homes, lots of trees, grass and shade. It was very much like my hometown of Riverside, IL where I grew up. Loved it.

Flying into and out of Kansas City Airport was awful. Too far from Columbia, overcrowded, herded people like cattle. The airport was a good 30 miles from the city. I realized I did not want to ever fly out of there again for any reason. I got scanned by TSI (of course, I have hip implants) and then patted down on my left knee only ??? What the??? Going to Chicago from Columbia would be a hassle. And even though it's summer, the Univ. streets were packed. Don't these kids ever go home?

Anyway, I left early, stopped in Booneville, a small historical town filled with old Victorian homes (charming) and then on to Independence hoping to see Truman Library (closed because of AC problems). I toured the Vaille Mansion (extraordinary) with a wonderful older lady guide.
Got to the Ameri- something casino, hoping my luck would change, but after tripling my money, I lost it all, plus some.

Landed in Phoenix last night with temps over 105. Trying to decide what to do next. The house still needs to be sold, but where to move to???? Still undecided. Just like the song:"Should I Stay or Should I Go?" Am thinking I may be stuck here, just because at this age (72), it's hard to do this alone. The hip replacement acted up but that was not a major concern. Not having a significant other to help with this stuff was the BIG thing. I might have to look for a MAN first. LOL (sorry this got to be so long). Time to go do laundry !!

When I don't listen to what my intuition is telling me, everything goes wrong for me. Happens way to often, lol.

OK, I'm seething right now.

You all know I went to the SPCA and picked out my new cat. To comply with their policy, I need to get permission from my landlord (a company) that I can have a cat. Now, I've lived here almost 4 years and have had Mimsy with me those whole 4 years.

I tried calling the manager who works (when she feels like it) in our complex yesterday (one of her days to be here). Never reached her by phone, but left lengthy message with all the details and phone numbers of what needed to be done. She never answered my call and of course never called the SPCA. So....... I cannot get my cat.

I call the company and talked to a woman who refused to help me. Would not step on the regional manager's toes by doing that, she said. I did say something like you guys run a sh*tty place and she got very defensive, told me to not yell at her, and don't swear at her. OK, I admit, I was not being very classy.

So.... now, if said regional manager shows up on Tuesday, MAYBE I will get her permission.... but of course it involves more paperwork!!

Now this is the same place where a woman downstairs has a dog who is allowed to P and P inside the apartment. Dog NEVER goes outdoors. Woman has commercial rug cleaner come in every 2 months to clean the rugs. Meanwhile, in the warmer weather the stink is outrageous and affects all the people who live near her.

I'm really disgusted with this place.

I believe it is standard for animal shelters/organizations to want written permission from landlords for pets. Makes complete sense. They don't want the animals going just anywhere.

Not sure why this is such a surprise.

THINGS ARE BETTER!! The regional manager just came to my door with all the paperwork I needed and has in fact already faxed it to the SPCA!!!!

So even tho I didn't get her today, I will be able to get her. I'm absolutely thrilled!!

PhxBarb: Sounds like a rough start to your trip. I'm glad it got better and you were able to take in some good things while you were gone.

Just like the song:"Should I Stay or Should I Go?" I kind of feel the same way. Saw eye doc yesterday who said I might need another surgery. So do I really want to go where he isn't? I've been with him since 2010 and he's done all the eye surgeries...... it's all about trust.

Good luck to you with your decisions...... I'll be "rooting" for you.

NEg: I was thinking about doing that. But the SPCA doesn't really work that way. They won't let me have her till they get OK from landlord.

But as it turns out..... the OK has been faxed to the SPCA and the regional mgr of my apt. brought me the letter and other form they needed.

Hallelujah!! I'll be posting a picture pretty soon!
