The thing I liked most about this thread was that although the general topic was about moving - we talked about lots of things. It worked - so - there is no "off topic" on this thread.

Why don't we petition to rename Wisteria's original thread: Women's Chat: Retiring Alone, Relocating, and Things We Want to Share. That ought to do it. We can then chat about anything we want, no?

Off topics are usually on topic! ;)
Yep, it's true. We always, always came back to essential topics that were relevant for women retiring alone. StealthRabbit contributed sooooooo much good information, I recall!!
By the way, on topic, retiring to Santa Cruz is NOT as expensive as many people think. I have managed on a very meager budget, and if I can do it, so can others!! I have found so many resources in Santa Cruz County that help me. And, taxes are actually low here (Prop 13). Food is easily accessible because of the farms so close by. Loads of Farmers' Markets.
It's a thread like this that has helped to direct people to find their new retirement home/city/state.
Retiring alone is a hard process....especially for women. We needed and loved this group. I hope it is allowed to stay but with the original title, as women find it much more difficult to get the support system they need when alone.
I am proud of all of you. So much information has been exchanged over the years, so many of us have met each other and stayed in contact. Although some of us are still finding our way through the retirement maze, there is an end in sight!
As a woman who has retired alone, here's to success in retirement!! We have had quite a ride. If this post doesn't get deleted, if you'd like to stay in touch and are on my friend list, we can exchange FB info or other info.

If "They who must not be named" will allow it.... lol
It's worth a try.....I feel sad to see the old one go, and even sadder to see this "new" one here.

This. ^^^
I think because mods are chosen amongst those who agree to do the job, it's more the case they are not familiar with a topic or city to which they are assigned so they delete posts some think are in fact relevant to the subject which they do not. I stopped posting here but have read other's posts from time to time and agree that none those that were recently deleted were OT. Apparently that was not the opinion of everyone.
I actually think the original poster should be the one to decide that. He or she is the one who began the discussion so he or she should be the one to determine if the thread is going too far afield. Also, some posters don't mind if their thread wanders, some do. People have different ideas of wandering.
Anyway, I never thought that men were excluded from posting here but some did complain that they didn't like the personal information given by some of the women posters. If the OP had objected to that she would have said so. But she didn't. So that was within the realm of her thread intention.
I stopped posting because my intention to move last spring was thwarted by a severe bout of illness connected to a chronic condition and so had to put off my move until next year. I felt I had nothing to contribute to this thread until that time. So I am updating my personal story a bit. If someone feels that is out of place, sorry.

This sounds good - I believe early retirement is the mod. Does Wisteria like this title?
First, I also am appalled and saddened that your daughter was attacked. The perpetrator was slime, but it does not follow that men in general are slime.
Second, I too had posts deleted - six of them as a matter of fact.
Third, concerning free speech. There never has been "free speech" on City-Data and there never will be. And if you think about it you wouldn't want it because if we had it everything here would be a cesspool. The rules here do not allow certain things, among them bashing. Racial bashing, religious bashing, gender bashing, etc. If there were really free speech here, this would be a horrible place, full of invective (some of it against men, some against women), gutter language, blatant personal attacks, or to sum it up, constant hatred. It is the hatred I am compelled (driven) to oppose.

Well besides being an incredibly long title, what happened to the original subject matter... Single Women Retiring Alone? I don't especially want to hear how "we" did it, either. I see that a LOT in the other threads.

Like with most threads the nuts & bolts will tend to be well covered by post #30.
After that it's mostly derivative and side chat.
