I love the idea of getting together, although I'm not sure about this summer, as my daughter is starting college in August, and we have all these orientations and things we have to do....plus, my boss is retiring (speaking of retiring!), and I will have a new boss, so it will be a time of change.
However.....I did think of something that might work, for those who may not be able to travel....the trusty....WEBCAM!!! Yes, we could have a MSN or Yahoo "chat" with webcam -- we could take turns "seeing" each other, hearing our voices, and discussing these ideas.
Oh, I am so proud of this group of women -- I love seeing motivated women who are interested in creating something new!!
And thanks to HDL for her collaborative thread!! New beginnings!!

I'm not good at remembering who said what, so sometimes I peak at the profiles.
Nancy, I couldn't remember why 'you wouldn't be doing anything', but I also noticed you have a Maine Coon. Those are the most beautiful cats, with the best disposition, don't you think? I'm a cat lover, too, and have had Maine Coons before.
I think I will go through all the posts, summarize the details according to what people have indicated is of interest or importance, specific skills, readiness, etc. I'll post it here, so we'll really get a sense of where we stand.
Also, I've started noticing women on other forums, who sound like they might be interested, and think it might be time to reach out to them, and alert them to this thread via DM. Up to this point, I didn't want to sound like some "recruiter", but as this gains momentum, I think it would be wise to invite as many as possible into the 'action' phase.

When I said I wouldn't be doing anything, I meant that as of June 26th , I'll be retired from teaching. I don't think it will hit me until August, though as I do not work in the summers anyway. But, when I stop being depressed at those ubiquitous Back to School sale signs, then I will finally know that it is over......

Wisteria, that's a great, easy solution for those who can't actually attend.
And, guess what I found! Ladies, here's our website!
Home: Women Living in Community
The front page alone echoes our thoughts, and confirms that we really are a grassroots movement, struggling to define our way.
I'm still going through it all, as there are so many links to organizations and ideas, but they've already had a 'conference' for women like us!
This website is for:
Women Living in Community!!! From Dreaming.. to Doing!
Sure sounds like us, so I suggest everyone have a look.
Here's another good link I found through that website, and gives some ideas and resources for 'EcoVillages"
A Resource Guide to Creating Community in Later Life
copied this line:
….. and then created their own conversation utilizing Open Space Technology (www.openspacemeetings.com) – a powerful tool which recognizes the experience and wisdom of each individual present.
I thought they were referring to "online" meeting tool, but after reading, I don't think so, I think they are referring to a method for enhancing productivity at real life meetings... mmm
I know there are online meeting formats, though, and yes, Wisteria, it's something we need to find and use.
