Thanks - sounds delightful! There are times when I think it would be nice to rent - no more fix-its - but then I search way back to why I made getting a house a priority, especially with dogs. It is nice and you remind me not to take things for granted.

Any good news from Wisteria (or any of you) will be really welcomed. Like Windwalker2, fingers crossed it will be what she has been wanting most.

sheesh, I can hardly wait to hear the good news.

Karcon, thanks for the description of your new house and community. It sounds nice and pleasant. Best of all, you sound really happy with it.

I just had an enjoyable few minutes with a nice fireworks display courtesy of the neighbors. It was accompanied with a fairly spectacular firefly display as they send their amorous signals to one another. One of the nice things about living in the country.

I just checked the board after being away for a day and saw that everyone's already running with the idea of writing our stories (YAY!!), and without any guidelines. I just suggested having them b/c I know, from being an editor of several publications and receiving volumes of pieces from the wide, wide (unknown) public (this is not a small club after all, but the Internet), that anything can come in....anything at all, and if pieces were to be "rejected"....i.e., not posted for a reason that involved one of the "guidelines" there could be hard feelings all around, and we could lose out through misunderstandings.

So, if you don't want rules, fine. Here is the first of the questions that Anomoly posed, and some possible prompts for anyone who wants one. They can be ignored, of course.

1. As you look at retirement as a single woman, what made you decide to move, instead of staying where you're at?

Possible first lines:

Do I want to grow old here, where I am? Can I afford to? My thoughts change daily….here’s what I’m thinking today. I think I really have a….

I’m hoping the grass really could be greener elsewhere, or the skies bluer, or the air cleaner. My hope is to move to a….

The decision came on rather suddenly one day after I….

I've always said I'm outta here as soon as I....

I’ve had a growing sense for a long time now that I should move away to someplace that’s….

The main thing that makes me want to start over in a fresh new place is….

Please send your pieces of any length (one paragraph to several pages) to Miruca, our reader/poster, any time at

Let each other in on things you think can really be a help or an insight.

Looking forward to seeing our writings!!

MIRUCA, how do we view these....all in one place on your blog?

Default Ready to make a move to the Southwest!

Hello! My name is Nancy and I am very interested in moving to NM from Florida. I am 53, happily divorced, and eager to find a quiet, peaceful place to live. I currently work as an executive assistant and earn a decent living. But like so many women, I find myself nearing retirement age with no spouse, very little in the way of savings, but still capable of doing whatever I need to do to create a good retirement situation for myself. I want to fly out there and spend some time searching for the right place, but I have no clue where to begin. When I really start thinking about all that is involved, I become overwhelmed by all the questions I have and I walk away from my computer - feeling defeated. Mountainair, NM has grabbed my attention as of this morning, and I would love to hear from someone who knows a bit about the area. Thanks so much!
Blessings,
Nancy

Welcome to the group, Nancy. There are several people on this thread that are looking at NM (take some time, when you can, to read this interesting thread or do a search on NM here) or I would do a search in the NM forum for Moutainaire. I suspect there are a lot of people out there thinking the same thing - a community of women (but why stop with just women? eh? and why exclude great married people?) to act as a support group. The economy has temporarily thrown a wrench in many of our plans but we will all eventually reach our chosen destination. Best of luck!
