NEG:Curmudgeon:"Madam, I didn't open the door in deference to your gender. I opened it in deference to your age" and walked off without a backward glance.
Now that response has style!!! Wicked, but definitely with style! I may borrow it if you don't mind.
Feel free. The more of us who stand up for (un)common courtesy and chivalry the better!

I LOVE IT. I have a feeling that women are once again beginning to appreciate such niceties as men opening doors. After all, men (in general) are usually stronger. Anyway we women are carrying all those shopping bags!! (joke)But for those who are rude in the face of your courtesy, this is the perfect slap in the face.

The slap in the face is the reference to age, LOL. ('Mudgeon didn't get it )

but what "girl" in her 30s wants to look older? They are so vain at that age so to be told that he opened the door because she looked old probably brought her to her knees. Well deserved, I say.
Even if she thought it was sexist for a man to open the door for her, she could have at least applied some manners and simply said Thank you. If she had done a little bit of thinking she might have even realized that he was an older person and this was customary for anyone in his age group.
I know. There's no real right or wrong on something like this but I never saw that as sexist--and I see a lot of things as sexist.
Is this old fashioned or are times changing?--I much prefer shops whose doors open to the fresh air. Indoor malls tend to be ever so depressing. The lighting is sad and the cacaphony from overlapping music streams is mind boggling.
It will soon be old fashioned to know how to "write" rather than print. Writing is now being called "cursive", and there are at least four US states that do not believe cursive is a necessary part of curriculum.
I still prefer the old fashioned, properly balanced, stereo systems to digital renditions of music. And often silence is the most beautiful music of all.
Our cars are the only cars in the neighborhood that haven't been stolen.... because we drive sticks. There's an upside I hadn't thought of!
I prefer a desktop because I need my computer somewhat protected from little feeties that always want to play and purr.
I make my own bread. I quilt and I bake some really good chocolate chips cookies. (Use the toll house recipe with real butter, add two teaspoons of vanilla and chill the dough for an hour before you "drop" the cookies -- chilled dough doesn't spread out to flat thin cookies.)
And while I love to eat out -- I really do know how to cook... so it's not a big deal to cook.

well here's my mix of modern technology with old fashion entertainment.
Every day we DVR Gunsmoke and Rawhide so we can watch them later at night....
So when someone say " hey did you watch American Idol last night" my reply is always "NO"
