Its a great article and just about sums up the situation. Also good for a couple of laughs. Only thing I could find he left out was "high taxes" for Wisconsin.

I love the California one. I live in CA and I experience none of the things listed in the Con section, 'cept Jerry Brown and yes the State is broke (along with many other states).

California

Pros: Disneyland, warm weather, Malibu
Cons: high taxes, Jerry Brown, earthquakes, mudslides, wildfires, gang violence, crime, traffic, rampant poverty, insane politicians, ridiculous regulations, bad schools, political correctness, illegal immigration, not enough jobs, air pollution, multiple nuclear power plants, possible tsunami threat along the coast, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oakland, Stockton, Sacramento, huge drug problem, high population density, the state government is broke,

*************
The author forgot to mention the snow. CA gets the most and deepest snow in the US.

Seriously? A con for Arkansas is "Clintons", and for some states it's "very flat".

Thanks for your letting us know that you don't like that site.

It won't make any difference to me since I keep an open mind to learn from all sources I find.

I, too, have an open mind, which is why I don't like that site, because its mind is closed.

Iagree;the best place isn't the sdam for everyone. A perosn like myself use the warm climate can't take the cold that well. A perosn from the cold can't take the heat. Some have to have a coastal area ;others like the mountains best.

I didn't even get that far. When I put my cursor over the link and saw what it was, I didn't even bother to click on it. Unfortunately, I've made that mistake before.

Since when is someone's blog a "source"?

And as for keeping an open mind and seeking out information....when's the last time you sought out information in a source such as Daily Kos?

There is another dimension to this discussion, namely that the original post was made in the wrong forum. This is the Retirement Forum, and City-Data has a Self-sufficiency and Preparedness Forum for those who believe that an economic and societal collapse is just around the corner. This thread should be moved there.

I wonder what the criteria for a good retirement place would be for a blog that believes economic collapse is imminent?

Just speculating, but these are a few of my ideas:

1. Gated community topped with barbed wire.

2. Armed guards conducting a 24 hour patrol armed with assault rifles.

3. The community has its own SWAT team to deal with terrorists if they somehow get through the barriers.

4. Underground bunkers stocked with a years supply of food and water in the event of a nuclear attack.

5. Its own system of wells, so that the residents can avoid drinking chlorinated and fluoridated water.

6. Its own herd of cattle and flock of chickens so that residents will have their own food supply.

7. An "education center" so that residents can learn the "truth" about their socialistic, communist government.

8. A large supply of tinfoil hats.
