Is this the forum to ask about s.s. disability income for non retirees?

What is the lowest possible disability income for one individual?

If you are referring to SSDI, my belief is (wife is on SSDI) your monthly benefit is calculated based on your past income and what you may have collected when retired. The lowest can be low if one's income was low or did not work for very long (so many credits) or it can be high from years of work and the amount of income. I think the highest one can go is $2400 per-month but may have changed. I'm thinking the lowest might be $500. I know the average is around $1000. No one who is at retirement age is on SSDI. That is because when a disabled person who collects SSDI becomes of retirement age their status is changed from disable to retiree.

2 females and 1 male. Their s.s. work history may be weak.
To establish the household income, trying to estimate what the lowest could be, per person.

Suppose one female never married and never worked and was disabled from a young age such as mid 20's. No work history, lived at home until mid 20's then disabled.
She would have no s.s. work history. What would her SSDI be?

jmking:
If $500 is the lowest then the household income for the 3 adults would be at least $1500.

Depends on the State. Supplimental Security Income. A type of Social Security that is added to your SS disability income. In CA it works out to: SSD plus SSI equals $837. For a marrried couple, I think it is about $1300

SSI is NOT any type of Social Security, it is administered by SS but it is a low income welfare type program.

That is correct. Many on SSDI do collect SSI only because they do not make enough to survive especially when medical is a big issue such as nursing home, hospice care etc.

Don't even bother trying to figure it out. There is too much information missing. Is the couple married? Is the other adult the child of one or both of the adults in the household?

BTW, the adult who has been disabled since childhood may be drawing a benefit from a parent's record, if the parent is retired or disabled. As to the other two, who knows? If their SSDIB is less than the state's SSI benefit, the SSDIB will be supplemented to equal the amount that is awarded for SSI. If the couple is married, as noted in one of the prior posts, the SSI portion is not doubled for the couple, but is increased a bit.

If she has not worked she would not be eligible for SSDI.

If she is determined disabled (by Social Security) she would receive SSI. The 2013 amount is $710.00/month.
