Rogarven, You don't say if you are retiring or not. It seems that if someone is retired and moves to a new city and doesn't work, it is hard to make new friends unless you move to a 55+ community or an area where there are many retirees. Make sure you check out the % of people in your age group before you retire to any community. I believe City-Data.com gives out that info.

For the worse: I miss having regular inter-action with younger folks. Most of the people we see now are our age. I worked for a large multi-national company and regularly inter-acted with people from their 20s through their late-50s. We moved to a somewhat upscale condo, and most of our neighbors are around our age. Also, most of the people who have time to run around with us are our age.

For the better: We have more time to socialize. We can go to the theatre and do fine dining during the week. We can have friends over for dinner because taking the time to shop and cook is a pleasure - not a chore to fit in on an off-day. Having time to be with other people has really allowed us to expand our social life.
