Two years ago when we were relocating and our cell phone plan was up, I went looking at many cell phone plans. Like yourself all I wanted was a basic phone. No Internet, no texting, nothing, though I would add a camera.
Basically what I found was some sounded good (like Jitterbug for one) but there were heavy upfront charge like $100 for the phone and $25 startup fee which made the first minute like $125.00. Also another problem with some was they would not accumulate unused minutes. If you bought say a 30 day card with 100 minutes, at the end of the 30 days if you had not used the 100 minutes, they did not carry them over to the next month. The minutes were lost. Another problem was some were card purchase only so no direct billing. Buying cards all the time just seemed like a pain in the butt.
I did have some issues in setting up the first TracFone. I was ready to trash it all. I admit it was my impatience as I had not read/listened to the setup instructions well. I had to get customer service to bail me out but then I set the next one up with no problems.
