If you maintain two homes...one up north & one down south for the winter I assume you have to pick one as your home state for taxes, voting, car registration et al. How do you decide?

Most states say you only have a certain time to get new license & resistration...how does this work if you are splitting your time between 2 places?

sorry if question sounds dumb but we are thinking of doing this and these questions came to mind

We have decided to have a second home in WA for the summers. I think we would register our cars in WA rather than AZ. We will pick one state over the other for income taxes and voting.

In some states, you might not have a choice and have to pay tax in both or a prorated amount based on the time spent there. Look carefully at their laws.

Some states acknowledge the Snow Birds residencey I know Nevada is one and I believe AZ is too, but like the previous post said watch your laws. when I contacted the AZ taxation office their comment to me was that if you live here you will pay our State income tax, so needless to say we decided that state wasn't for us.
