Please hold onto the hope that it was a mistake and that the mistake will be reversed.

Anytime there's a change in your monthly pension, you should receive a statement from OPM explaining the change. However, I think they recently stopped mailing out the paper copy, so you should check your "OPM- Services Online" account to see what's posted there.
As of January 2013 we still get notices of annuity adjustments. I received one for the last cola. Don't know why they continue to send the paper notices = makes more sense to get it on line plus saves money - oh wait - this is the spending government we are talking about. LOL

I did work other jobs thru life on top of being a Federal Employee, so yes I paid into SS in those jobs for 46 years. So that is why I have SS in my life besides the Federal pension.

I just don't get this sudden loss of my Federal pension and I'm confused over it. So its understandable anyone else would be. It has to have been some kind of a mistake on their part. Pensions do not get reduced to this outrageous amount without notification. My health insurance is deducted or it has been. I just don't know what my monthly amount is now, since I don't know if this is a mistake. SO you can see its confusing and very unsettling right now.

I do not think you should be getting off-set. You are a FERS employee and they switched you over so there is some grey area there but in all your pension is FERS.

The item that stopped was your SS kicker as it is described. It is a supplement to reach you to age 62. After that you could take your SSA or not. Your FERS should have continued without pause.

Stay on top of it. They made the mistake and you should be able to clear it up. DFAS will have your pay records and if that don't work your congressman will make the system work.

I agree. I think he got mislabeled. He should be able to get that cleared up. It might take time but I am sure if he did get switched over to FERS as he said than he will be okay. If not then his pension should be higher than it is as FERS.

We switched over to paperless a few years ago. I still kill more trees than I did before we did that.

golfingduo - how did you switch over to paperless? Do you do it on the OPM website. Never saw it but will check again today. Could really care less about receiving them so if I can get paperless that is fine with me.

Golfingduo: I went to the opm site. There is no where you can request a paperless "Notice of Annuity Adjustment". These are sent out every time there is a change to one's annuity. I am not talking about deposit statements or monthly annuity amounts which I have never had sent via mail for the 12 years I have been retired. The notice of annuity adjustments are sent out when health benefit amount changes, yearly cola's etc. It is also stated that the notice of annuity adjustment may be used as proof of your current rate of annuity.

Do tell how you manage to not get one. I would rather not receive them but access them on-line which is something that can't be done on the opm site.

Jim...If you use the computation shown on the following link (for someone who would have a FERS + CSRS components), is the calculation consistent with your annuity?

Computation

I don't know the details of how many CSRS years you had before you transferred to FERS, and I'm assuming you did not retrieve your CSRS contributions when transferring to FERS.

But...for a change to be made without a written explanation...that just doesn't sound like a valid change.

In the left column on the OPM home page, there is a "Write us" link. Why not write them and ask the questions, and let them know in your message that you would prefer an answer before you contact your congressional member...which will be on the following date:__________

Regarding paperless statements...I don't know of any way to stop the mail stuff. OPM seems to be stuck in the "we've always done it this way" mode. I would like to stop them too...I hate having personal information sent in snail mail, which we've had stolen before we got a locking mailbox.

Agree 100%.

First I am not retired so I do not get statements or anything.

To both of you I didnt mean me exactly. Our office and the whole federal government put out that we were going paperless. So far I kill more trees with our computer program (SAMS-E Standard Army Maintenance Management System - Enhanced) then we did before we got the computer program. Sorry if I got you excited about e-statements. In our system DFAS (Defense Finance Accounting System) I have one paper the other is an e-statement. I get two paychecks so that is how I get my statements.

Right around the time I was coming in to FERS they were converting CSRS employees that had less than 3 years. If they had more they had the option to convert. Not knowing the OP's particulars he could fall into that grey area of conversion. I just went through a pre-retirement briefing where they mentioned it. Since it didnt affect me I didnt ask any deeper into it. Right now there are very few CSRS personnel left over.

I already work part time.
I'm wondering if because you are still working part-time and, at the same time, contributing to SS - as well as drawing from SS - if those continued SS deposits (and potential increase in your SS benefit) have something to do with the reduction in the CSRS. You've been retired for a while and have been working and contributing to SS all along. I suspect this may have triggered something on OPM's end.
