One acquaintance wears a Boston Red Sox t-shirt wherever she goes, on every outing. We (the others in the group) are plain tired of having to look at it.
Would it work better if it was a Buc t-shirt?

Used to be a time when people took pride in their appearance. Some places had dress codes many years ago - people actually gave thought about what they wore in accordance to where they were going that day. No more. Nowadays: flip flops, tank tops.

I dress as young as I feel: the same clothes i have always worn since I was in preparatory school, both business and casual wear, proper Bostonian style.

Warmly. You've reached that point in life.
Warmly? You jest. Warmly in the winter, sure. In the summer, I'm wearing as little as possible. It's hot!

And this brings up the question to the original question:

For what purpose and in what situation?

For hanging out in my backyard, I'm wearing shorts and a sleeveless top of some sort; braless with a strap shirt most of the time in summer; long pants and a t-shirt with a jacket in winter.

Going out to dinner? I'll wear something classy for a nice place - like a suit, pant suit, dress - in winter, it'll always be pants. If I'm heading to NYC for a night at the opera, I'll dress up; but for hanging out in TN, I'd scare the locals right out of their overalls!

I'm retired! I do not wear "proper Bostonian style" for business since I do not "do" business! and right now my casual wear involves a bathing suit if we have company or nothing if it's just the 2 of us in the pool.

RETIREMENT! It means you don't gotta follow business codes since you ain't doing business. Special occasions are just that, special. Dress accordingly.

I understand your point even if I don't agree with it all of the time. I guess the word casual has a greater role in how folks dress. I am going to make another point but will do it independent of your post.

One of the things I have noted with considerable sarcasm and it is not in this thread I am reacting to but in general.

So many of the ladies who are now over fifty are more concerned about the length of skirts and inappropriated dress today than when we were young. It was our parents that were out of touch with change and being fuddy duddies etc. Let she who was never dressed in a mini cast the first stone about those in them today.

Within reason, should a 62 year old worry about clothes choices? I can think of better things to worry about...YMMV

Buy her a new T-shirt, then! Or buy three.

Or quit inviting her, if her sartorial style is that disruptive to the well-being of the collective, lolololol.

Also, women of a certain age should really be aware of the "ick factor."
There does seems to be a movement toward the "bag lady" look when women get up there in age -

I will be 62 in a couple of months. I still work (in an office) but I have not 'dressed up' for work in a long time. I wear chinos or corduroy pants, socks and clogs, and casual cotton shirts (not t-shirts, but not dressy). In the winter I wear the same thing except I usually wear a jacket over the shirt, again, not dressy; cotton (usually from LL Bean).

When I'm home or on the weekends it's jeans and t-shirts or sweatshirts and my OLD clogs, which are too worn out to wear to work now..LOL.

Pajamas are sweats..so comfortable!!

Haven't worn a bra in over 40 years.
Have no stockings.
No dresses.
No 'heels'.
