One year ago, at age 68, I attended my 50th high school reunion. It was the first one I had ever attended. Out of the over 100 people present, I knew one single person.

But more to the point of the thread, I was blown away by the rooms full of old people, especially the men. Totally grey or white hair, mostly or completely bald, or at least severely receding for the most part. Whoa! What a shock.

I concur, most older folks around here look way older than their years. My Dad is 84 and there is not a person he has met that thought he was over 70!! Good genes, hard work (according to Dad) and healthy lifestyle. Although, one of my Dad's cousins had a stroke and had never smoked, drank, always took care of himself. I think stress ages you, I know it has me.

When Gloria Steinem turned 50, people said to her, "You don't look 50." She said to them, "This is what 50 looks like!"

I have no idea what age I look. I know I look younger than my grandparents did when they were my age (judging from photographs), but then they had much harder lives than I've had.

Smile Maybe a compliment....

My daughter asked me to send her (she's 28) what I use on my face to cleanse it. She said to me in an e-mail - all my friends and their moms think you (me) are way younger than you are but I'll keep your secret (LOL). (I always steered away from the age topic).

That was actually one of the nicest things she's ever e-mailed me.

Maybe it's working a lot, not being in the sun (even though I love it), being a bit overweight; I don't know. I don't wear much makeup and I should take better care of myself but people are surprised when we tell them our daughter is 28. My husband has that olive skin, dark hair and he does not look his age either.

I have siblings and others have always guessed I'm the youngest (I'm the oldest). I just don't come off as polished and pretty, just very plain Jane.

However, I envy those who can feel good where they are - not there yet. I've always been way behind everyone else in doing things, acquiring things, etc. I feel I've missed out on a lot.

My husband and I have encountered more stress in our lives than is needed and one day, I sure hope it's worth it - however, I am grateful for what I have, for sure.

Maybe we Leos are delusional about how we look!!! But I suspect that avoiding the sun my entire life is why I don't have wrinkles, and that is why folks think I am younger than I am.

Or maybe it is something in the water here in NC--cause it appears at least several of us are from The Old North State, lol.

Scottish and Swiss here--some of it may be genetics.
Maybe it is the Noxema that we probably all used to wash our faces during our teens.

I love the sun and my hair has stayed dark. I look younger than my sixtysomethings from a distance. Up close, not so much. Dark hair does not flatter an old face.

My girls wouldn't walk from the house to the car without a slather of sunscreen.

I wouldn't say that I don't care how I look. It just isn't as important to me as it once was.

Oh. My. Goodness. Did you use Noxema, too? ROFL!!! My mother insisted it was the only thing I could use.

I dumped it years ago and started using Pond's. Sooooo much more gentle on my skin!!!

I can't believe I wasn't the only one subjected to Noxema, lolololol!!!! Is it an NC thing??? :-)

Someone recently guessed my age correctly. I'm sure I look my age. Totally grey hair. I'm not overweight, I'm pretty healthy, so at least I don't look or feel older. That's cool.

I used Noxema too! We should form a club. FWIW I do have really good skin and hardly any wrinkles on my face. Not sure if that's a coincidence, but hmmmmm..... now you're making me wonder....

How we cleanse and moisturizer plays a major role. I was using before there were brands for men.
