I thought that type of posting is what blogs are for.
However, I do have to ask Brava, Escort, etc.....why we are even opening these threads....notice the 'we'? I've asked myself that.
I can only conclude there I some bit of masochism involved

Escort, it's all good. Folks like us (retired) need not to take life THAT serious. If they do, then they are missing the point of it all. We have taken things seriously our whole life, and now, it's time to poke fun at life. A good belly laugh is always the best therapy for anything that ails you. We have earned the right to look at life, and make fun at it any way we please. If someone doesn't understand our views, or disagrees with them, then let them be, and socialize with the ones that share the same views. Keep posting. It's not likely we will ever run out of space on the internet.. nudge, nudge, wink, wink....

Yes, I understand what you are saying. I think, since there are other, like sevral, threads to write the same type of thing, there is absolutely no reason to have yet another one started with yet more of the same. Yes, I can not read it but then maybe we should just have the entire forum written and lead by one poster or a couple who seem to want to fill every nook and cranny with their aimless/endless thoughts.

Yes, I agree, I think there is an element of masochism.

LOL at the thought that I would stop posting because some other person thinks I look foolish. I raised four teenagers. According to them I've spent my whole life looking foolish--why stop now?

Let me know if any of you ever get crowned Emperor Of The Retirement Forum. At that point you might be able to convince me to cease and resist. Until then, you'll just have to learn to live with it.

Meanwhile... how cool is it to see my little thread engaging all this controversy in the very month that ten most engaging posters win $500! Thanks guys!

Better hurry, you all! Only a few more hours left to post here!

Gee whiz, should I start a new thread for tomorrow (July 2)? What do you think? Please advise me.
I've seen "monthly" threads on other forums.
It works out pretty well with various posters adding to it with text, pictures.
I think a daily thread might be too much.

I believe the city-data admin feels the same way. There actually is a reason for breaking daily topics like this into monthly threads, especially when they contain lots of photos. Such threads become bulky if they go on for months and months. That's why they like to break them up into monthly threads. At least that's the understanding I have.

FWIW, if bulk isn't a concern with this thread, it's ok by me if the mod wants to merge the threads. Including today's satire thread, because I think it's funny. Our mod might want to discuss it with the admin and see what they think.

found these babies off the new jersey turnpike near the meadowlands. nothing like the brisk feeling of 35,000 volts over your head.

Mathjak--once again amazing photos. Who knew power lines could look so cool?

This time you've inspired me to see if I could get a few shots like that. We have underground power lines where I live but they have some cool towers like that over in the next county. They look sort of like giants marching across a field. Might just drive over there today. (I'm not posting any shots I take, though, since I know they won't be half as cool as yours. Still, it'll be fun to see how they turn out and an interesting little field trip for today. If it isn't raining, LOL.)

I go in and out of the desire to start building up a few calluses now that I have the time to do so. For me, they'd be built up by doing some serious home improvement projects. I retired in January and in the winter I got into rebuilding the master closet and things like that. Now that the weather is nicer I've dropped all those activities.

Not sure if I'm relaxing more or just more interested in taking long walks, but whatever the reason my calluses have disappeared. Maybe next winter I'll get back into doing those home improvement projects again and build them back up.

Yesterday, knowing that we were in for lots of rainy weather this week I really pushed to get as much work done outside as possible.

The grass is growing like crazy and needs to be mowed every couple of days lately. I decided to do the dog run area using my walk behind bagging mower and to take it as short as possible to help make clean up in that area easier. Although that separately fenced area is only about 40 x 100 it's tough because it has a pretty steep rise along the southern length and so going up hill pushing hard is a lot of work. I filled the big 10 cubic ft wheelbarrow to the max with the clippings as I emptied the bag several times.

Then I mowed about half the back yard, again using the walk behind mower because I wanted to get it all bagged up. I had done much of the side and front yards over the previous couple of days with my new ride on mower with the 42" deck. That gets the job done quickly, compared to the time it takes with my older 28" snapper ride on unit which is not running.

I also did a fair bit of weeding, going after the Canadian thistles that are such a hassle to deal with - I use kitchen tongs to grab a section and the the clippers and even working very carefully I get "stabbed" a few times by the thorns.

Later in the afternoon my mechanic stopped by to give my old Suburban a jump - I'd managed to leave one door slightly ajar a few days earlier and since it was in the garage I didn't notice the lights on. OOPS! Once my vehicle was running again I loaded all the garbage in it and headed for the dumpsters to get rid of dog poop, yard waste and other stuff. After that was done I realized that I was very tired and hungry and splurged by going all the way in to town to grab a bite to eat.

Speaking of things "Canadian" I had a bumper "crop" of geese this year. Three adult pairs and lots of goslings out on the farm pond. The pond is about 1/3 to a 1/2 acre in size and has an island in it so it is a more protected area for them to nest and hatch the babies and they seem to have a good survival rate. Between the 3 couples I think they have 14 to 16 young ones - hard to get a count of them as they swim about the pond or mosey around the pasture. Yesterday they were all in the north pasture and the 4 horses stopped grazing for 5 minutes or so to keep an eye on them and see what they were up to. Eventually the geese all headed in to the tall grass and I lost sight of them for a few minutes, only to see them emerge from the corner of the property and head across the road to a neighbors pasture.

Today I did manage to get in a few short sessions of weeding between the rain showers but then it got rather heavy and I was stuck inside for the remainder of the day. That lead to some reading and a nice cat nap/snooze in the recliner this afternoon.

These next few rainy days should be devoted to doing inside chores - boring stuff - laundry, vacuuming, kitchen upkeep, etc. but I don't find any of those things to be at all enjoyable, just annoyingly necessary. I try to pretend that my employer funded pension means that my nasty old company is now paying me to take care of my needs but even that can't make housekeeping fun or fulfilling. No risk of being fired if I fail to to any work for days on end.

No mall walking for this old lady since the nearest one is 35 miles away in Christiansburg. If I head up there I'm likely to spend money on books, farm supplies, dining out and several gallons of gas for the trip so I try to keep my journeys there to a minimum. Plus, they have lots of traffic lights to sit waiting at and with only one in here in Floyd county I'm rather spoiled about moving right along at my own pace.
