I listened to a newscast last night and
they claim at age 59 men and women
no longer care about their appearance.
The fish has been caught and lures
are no longer needed. .
I think that's true to some extent.
Sometimes I pick up the nearest item
and throw it on.
Do you?
I just turned 59.
I am single.
I care very much about my appearance and take great care in my grooming habits and my wardrobe. In fact I will candidly say that I am more obsessive about my clothing and outfits now than any other time in my life.
At this point in my life I'm concerned about things that were never a problem before like nose hairs, ear hairs, bushy eyebrows, etc. I strive to be immaculate ... like my Dad who was very dapper and had excellent taste in clothes. Now that autumn has arrived I look forward to wearing my merino wool and cashmere sweaters, my Harris tweed, houndstooth, and herringbone blazers, my button down Oxford shirts, my leather bomber jacket, plaid shirts, khaki windbreaker, etc.

Ah, yes, one of the pain in the ass items for men as we grow older. Hairiness is a rather individual thing, of course. I must have been in my forties when it first became necessary to trim my nose and ear hairs, although I cannot remember exactly. At 69 I am now at the point where once every two weeks is not quite enough; in other words, it's getting worse, albeit very slowly. At least the need for attention is not daily, like shaving.
I had an uncle who died in his mid eighties. The last few years of his life he let himself go in terms of the nose and ear hairs. GROSS! May the memory of his example save me from that same fate!
Clark, I admire your devotion to keeping up appearances. We are a dying breed, can you imagine in thrty years the senior crowd with all the ink and piercings, baggy pants and flat brim ball caps?
Nothing agianst piercings or ink, my DD has both........

Hats off to you! A neighbor is just like you and I like to gaze upon him. He's about 80 and
remarkable. I think caring about your appearance is nothing but positive.
yes, it does go right with your self esteem. Although, I do remember when I was a kid and grandpa Poppy would wear stripes and plaids together, it would pee my grandma off, I think he did it on purpose
Any particular reason you chose age 59 for that? Why not 58, or 60, or some other age? I am just curious - I certainly have no quarrel with your decision.
Arbitrary milestone (but I reserve the right to compress the schedule) ...

I personally like strips and plaids together. Beats floral and plaids.
