So there are lots of people here with big retirement incomes. Just wonder where you're getting it from. Private savings (or pensions - public or private). Please us know. Robyn

2 pensions, SS and savings. Haven't had to touch my 401Ks, 403B and IRA yet. Am going to wait on those until I have to start drawing them down.

I was kind of surprised at the number of high dollar retirement earners here. And figured it had to be driven at least in part by government pensions (which are kind of on the generous side). Perhaps I'm wrong - and/or didn't construct my poll accurately to reflect that question. Such is life <shrug>

My husband and I are pretty much in your camp in terms of retirement income (although we've been in retirement mode for quite a while). Robyn

I was just as surprised. From the comments of a few posters it skewed our perspective to think everyone was much lower.

I voted $50K from public pension even though it is a bit less and it is only a piece of the pie. A very nice piece, but only a piece.

I my/family could be two with 35k pensions or one with 70k big difference. Is it with or without survivor benefits which can trim a few dollars off. Two people with 50k in SS only need 40k combined in pensions to get there. If you make 112k in salary and have been over threshold for a number of years you are maxed or close to it in SS which at 70 is over 39k. Marry some one else like that and the two of you waiting until 70 are pushing close to 80k in SS alone. The key thing missing from this forum discussions is two retiree's each bringing strength to the retirement table. It also makes it easier to save and invest.

Two government pensions and both of us drawing Social Security which I didn't count in the poll. Neither are munificent but they meet our needs. Savings if we need them.

Half of my retirement income will come from my federal pension. The other half from my 401K combined with social security. Also a small Roth IRA maybe for those unexpected expenses like a new roof. Made extra payments on my house to get it paid off. Will get health insurance in retirement and pay the same rate that I did while working, about 25-30% of the cost of the premiums. Not too shabby but I lived below my means for years and paid in a good chunk of my salary to have a comfortable and secure retirement. I'm single.
