Google sunlakes AZ and also read the Sun Lakes Splash (the newspaper they have) on line. Alot of good info.
Thanks PhxBarb. That's the place I was thinking of. I just sold my home in Ahwatukee by the way, so we were neighbors. SunLakes is nice, but really haven't seen it in several years. I know poster could find cheaper in Sun City, especially if they bought in the older section and did some remodeling. It all depends on what they are looking for. But Arizona would give them lots of choices.

Sorry, I thought it was Escort Rider who lived in Sun City. Guess I got him mixed up with someone else.
Just one of those senior moments I guess. Now I'm going to drive myself crazy trying to remember who is was.

You are welcome. No need to go crazy. Seems people come and go so fast on here, hard to get to know them very well. My posts are mostly about AZ because that's where I have been for the last 11 years, but not where I want to stay. Hope you have a Happy New Year !!!! Stay safe.

I lived in the Phoenix area for a few years. It is true that housing and other living costs are modest. You do need A/C but electric rates were low at least when I lived there. I would caution anyone thinking of living there to give it a try - thru the summer - before making a commitment. Temperatures are really high in the summer. Lots of folks come and then leave for that reason alone. Also Arizona is an outdoor oriented place, which is also a nice way of saying forget it if you are more into theater, arts and culture. Your brain will rot in Arizona.

In the past the Rim and the mountains were popular destinations in the summer months. Those days are long gone. The population has grown way too large and there are just nowhere near enough nice cool mountain locations. Don't think of buying some land and a cabin for summer use....those days are over unless you are willing to spend some serious money. You will be trapped indoors for the summer months. Don't count on it cooling down in the evening. It can still be over 100 degrees at midnight.

Some info about golf courses as part of a development. They will be the most expensive and controversial amenity there is. I have lived on and been a member of several of them. Unless they have a long term history and/or a sound financial base, avoid them when part of the development. Also pay attention to the ownership, it is often not what you think it is and things can change real fast.

What I said earlier is that for me there would have to be member golf club(s) near where I retired to. I did not mean I have to own part of (equity club) nor live on the golf course. Just that they must be near me.
