Worst: Thought I got shot in September. A loud POP! and a pain a bizarre sensation in the back. But I failed to keel over or bleed, so I knew it was worse than that. I have two 32 cm rods screwed into my spine and I thought I'd popped one of the screws perhaps. Walked to the hospital, which is at the foot of the hill, they took an x-ray and one of the rods had snapped in two.

Best: Had it replaced four weeks later. I felt better than I had since before I had to have them put in. The summer weather held through November, so I had days and days of nice walking in the early morning and sitting around in cafes schmoozing with friends. (Oh, yeah. This is my third trip to the same hospital in Barcelona, and I had a three-room suite to myself with a long view over the city to the sea, and a view from one of the sitting rooms over a kids futebol field, where they practiced and were coached every day.)

Just wanted to take a second to say I'm glad you're still here! It had been so long since we'd heard anything from you I was worried about you. Good to see you back and still healing!

My best: marrying my long-time love and approaching the finish line for retirement (28 more days!).

My worst: Nothing terrible; some health issues that I hope to turn around this year.

Just thought of another high and another low. I brought my blood pressure and LDL down to normal naturally, after threats from my doctor. On the flip side, I had a severe falling out with my sister last summer and although we've "made up," I'll never truly trust her again.

Congrats on reducing your BP and LDL! That's not an easy task at all.

And I truly empathize with you on the falling-out. I also had a severe falling-out with my sister last January -- something I'd have bet $$$ would never happen. I've lost a sister, just as surely as if she'd died. I think she wants to make up, but there are some words that just cant be taken back and I'd be a hypocrite if I pretended things were even moderately ok between us.

That's a real shame about your sister. What words were so serious that they "just can't be taken back"? And of course I realize that matter is your private business so I completely understand if you don't care to answer the question.

Families are hard to figure sometimes, aren't they? There is so much emotional baggage from childhood that is hard to jettison. Again, I am truly sorry about this breach which came as such a surprise to you and which may not be reparable. Maybe with the passage of more time??? A year may not be enough.

Yes, it is personal. I'll just say that she spewed a lot of venom that she'd been holding inside for 25+ years -- and none of it was true but she refused to even look at the proof that she was wrong. We were so close (at least I thought we were) and pain of her being so sweet to my face all these years while harboring so much hatred can never be forgiven or forgotten.

OK, enough of that, Any more and the mods will be asking me to take it to the Relationships forum.

The low point of the year was the disastrous blizzard last winter. We are just a few houses in from the ocean and the sea came up over the road (it didn't stay back behind the beach like it's supposed to.) We were under orders to be ready to be evacuated and I packed up our stuff. It was terrifying and to make matters worse, I packed a large wad of cash and some jewelry. We never did have to evacuate but in the confusion the money and jewelry were lost--either they went out with the trash or they are still in the house.

The high point was that I did some research online and found out how to cure my fibromyalgia. Just three nights of taking a certain supplement. All of a sudden--no pain at all. What a difference!
