If it was that slushy wet stuff that we got in Central Iowa this morning, know that you're not alone!

I've been walking daily. I go to a mall when I can, or I walk in place with videos, plus I do wall "push ups" and leg/arm lifts with light weights. I have to be careful because I have a bad back.

For shoveling, I use a "bent" shovel:

TRUE TEMPER® 18" Ergonomic Snow Shovel, 220886 | Ben Meadows

I also use a pusher:

I know my limits! I either shovel in stages or take out a slice of pie to one of the neighbors who has a snow blower. (:

At some point, I'm going to get a snow blower, but it's not in the budget right now, plus I'm going to wait until the end of the season and look for a decent used one.

I put in a new raised garden bed today for planting my onions.
I didn't like last year's spot so I'm trying a new spot this year.
This is the first bed to go in.

Aerobic (bike riding) and resistance exercise. Usually four days on, and then one off.

Retirement has been great for my health.

My work is pretty physically active, but it hasn't helped my heart. So, now I am working on a stationary bike. I can peddle for 1/2 mile and will work up from there. When my heart is strong enough I will be having open heart surgery... so I am not trying too hard with the bike!

Stationary bike when bad weather,
Walk for an hour outside in good weather,
Walk in the mall for excitement when bored,
Swim in hot weather.
I m tired just telling you

I'm not doing enough lately. I joined the Y pool program last year but stopped going this summer. I'm wasting money by not going but then winter came and there was just no way. Now I can't even get out due to snow.

But I'll go back and start over again. I do walk some in the summer. In winter it's a dash outside with the dog or, like today, some digging the snow. In summer there's a little bit of work in the garden. I live at the beach so in good weather there is beach walking--but of course I find excuses to not even do that very often.

I've always loved yoga and there is a class at the senior center but it's early in the morning and I have never been good for much of anything in the early morning. I could do yoga at home but cant get too motivated. Too many excuses. What a good thread--a wake up call and reminder that we need to get moving.

I was walking but now I have plantar fasciitis. I'm going tomorrow to visit a gym I'll probably join so I can use their elliptical and stationary bike until my foot heals. My dad died of heart disease at age 68. I have two years to go before I reach that age, and I'm trying very hard to avoid his fate. I'm hoping I inherited the pertinent genes from my mom, who is still climbing stairs at age 91.

Edited to add: And she's never exercised. My dad was the athlete in the family.
