The other side of the coin is interesting too -- why would any mature, rational man want to marry some battle axe with an attitude? Especially some geriatric battle axe from Palm Beach of all places . . .

And the battle of the sexes goes on. How sad this attitude is for those of us that still believe in love, and for whom money means little or nothing when choosing a partner.

You know, I don't quite know what to say to this. Because I'm not quite sure what you mean by it.

All I can report is my experience. When I hit my mid-30's, the ever-flowing spring of eligible men my age dried up. I shortly discovered that single men my age were looking for women 10 years younger than me. (and by my age, I mean mid-30s to mid-40s).

No wonder I thought there were plenty of guys around when I was in my 20's - there were!

As I got older, I discovered that the age of the men who were willing to date a woman my age was an ever-receding goalpost. So in my mid 30s it was mostly guys in their early 50s; by the time I hit 40, it was guys over 60.

At that point I quit looking. Not that I was looking all that hard to start with. And lest we think that there was something wrong with the way I looked back then (eg "let herself go" or whatever) until I hit my 50s, people thought I was a good 10 or 15 years younger than my actual age. Its amazing how fast a guy my age would disappear after he found out my real age (as opposed to my apparent age).

From about 40 on, I just wasn't all that interested in starting a relationship with someone about to retire. I've taken care of others all of my life, including my dad until he died; I'm not looking to repeat that.

Now that I am myself disabled and in need of more help than I would care to be, I wouldn't impose that on someone else.

So - at first I didn't want to be the go-to "nurse or a purse"; now I don't want to put someone in the position of doing that for me, either.

I'm perfectly happy having friends. I don't need someone living in my house to do that.

The downside of great wealth is that you don't know who loves you for your money and who doesn't -- those women are often very insecure and guarded because they have countless hangers-on, but few true friends. Even their own kids often let them down.

You're right. There are disadvantages, and this is one of them. The same thing can happen to rich men, by the way . . .

Absolutely - and I think it's much more rampant with the men. I know several intelligent, nice, retired men with money who got disgusted enough to take themselves off all the internet dating sites. They got tired of wasting time and being used financially by some of the women with whom they got involved.

Several of the more trusting got burned financially by giving out "loans" that they never got back . . .

The problem with going to a working area that is dominated by men is that the men are only interested in young women.

There is one exception.

The expat world is primarily dominated by men. Many of these are only interested in local women who are very young. However a few have different morals.

I suggest in particular single men that own and actually still sail a sailboat. Do not get one that just keeps it at the marina. Instead become an active sailor that helps.

By the way Charlevoix was incredibly beautiful this year.
The winter in particular was stunningly beautiful with views over frozen lake Michigan.

If you could afford a condominium in Charlevoix go for that.

To me the word "morals" means beliefs and practices having to do with right and wrong. How does our preference for age ranges among the opposite sex have to do with right and wrong, provided that such preference is directed to people at the age of consent and older?

Seriously - why do you think older men are interested in much younger women?

For their minds?

If you believe that - I have some swamp ... errrr, I mean PRIME BEACHFRONT PROPERTY in Florida you might be interested in ...
