I am not in any sort of shape to be involved in a riding club. I need the trike or a quad because I have balance issues which make it risky for me to ride a "regular" bike any more. I used to ride 30 to 50 miles a day 3 or 4 days a week, but that is out of my reach now.
In fact I will need an electric assist to make sure I don't get "stuck" not being able to make it up a hill, or back from an errand, when the exercise fatigue kicks in on top of everything else. Bus routes are usually out of my walking range.
I would like to be able to get around a little bit on the spur of the moment, rather than being limited to 24 hour notice for the paratransit, and then having to wait for them to take me home as well. If I want a gallon of milk I'd like to be able to hop out and get it and not have to wait for the next day, or the day after that, before I can get a spot on the paratransit. Plus - I won't get a LOT of exercise with the electric assist and the exercise fatigue that makes it necessary - but I'll get SOME. So, I'm looking for a trike or quad. Must reduce expectations due to limited abilities - but it doesn't mean I have to give it up altogether.

I had a friend who has basically lost his sense of balance, I tried to get him to get a trike for exercise, but he wouldn't go for it.
I also met a woman in Bellingham WA who has health issues. She has a custom Cattrike equipped with variable electric assist, regenerative braking, GPS, and all kinds of technical goodies.
It's a good platform all-around.
