Cold is a relative concept. I grew up in Wisconsin - and subsequently left in 1976 when a winter similar to what is happening this year occurred. WCF in Wisconsin the day I left for the San Francisco Bay Area was -60. Never again.
My spouse - actually likes snow - but now that we have lived in it almost 24 years - he's ready to be done - shoveling it.
In retirement we hope to CHOOSE to drive to it rather than live in it.

And cold and rainy California? We can handle it.
Anything for days, weeks or months on end is a real downer for me, even sunshine. Those with four seasons in their blood simply need mixing it up. That said....a lot of it depends on your hobbies. If you're a gardener, conditions North and far South could put a serious damper on the length of season & temps. If you love to ski or ocean surf, you can never have enough of the ideal day for that. People need to think less about climate and weather in general and more about what they need for the activities they love.
I only spotted a few yellow crocus, too.
If the grapes are frozen we'll have to take a trip and buy out are favorite local wine.
That'll be something to do!
The first one was in the back yard, all by itself. The ones in the front have finally opened a few flowers, but most of them aren't ready yet. I'm going to try to transplant them bulbs next year since I plan some decorative planters and would like a few in the back.
I noticed the peach tree has started leafing out, and the buds are appearing. But the large trees haven't shown much signs of leafing out.
I'm looking for a lawnmower, though, since its just started peaking out green, and I'm not forking out money for someone else to mow it. Push type, quiet and with no added costs.
In-ne. I've seen 5 inches here in May! I had just planted hydrangea and it got frozen.
Oh nooooo. Poor flowers. Where you live, it sounds like you need to get outa there. At least here there are little nibs in the yard--looks like the tops of crocuses trying to come up. At the post office the forsythia looked like they were getting ready to pop.
