Retired 6 years now and am continually having dreams about the factory i worked at for 30+ years.
I dont understand why this is happening particularly as i never thought it was a great job..
Anyone else have frequent dreams of their past workplace?

I worked in the tire and auto service business 30 years ago. I dream abut being back there at least a couple of times a month. Much more often than I dream about the financial services job that I just retired from.

Maybe it is the social aspect that your subconscious is reviewing? Did you have coworkers you enjoyed being around?

Even though you didn't particularly like the job, was there some facet of the work or atmosphere that you might miss?

Something as simple has having a regular routine or getting a regular paycheck could be why your mind goes back there while dreaming.

The other possibility - is there something about the job that you felt you left unfinished or unreconciled?

Yeah, I had some similar dreams too when I retired.

What I found was that I apparently had a little void in the accomplishments and affiliations area when I retired, probably exaggerated because we also moved to an area where we didn't know anyone.

So I got involved in volunteering a couple of days a week, in an activity that allowed me to make some social connections and have some work pace too. This activity put an end to the dreams and I enjoy the activity, so I'd say that it was one of those instances where my subconscious helped me move forward a bit in retirement.

I really miss the social dynamics of working with 350 co-workers, however the dreams arent about any co workers its just me being somewhere in the factory either walking around or accomplishing some task, actually i guess its a feeling of feeling relevant as in retirement that feeling is not happening a whole lot.

That would make sense.

The one thing about growing older that concerns me is becoming irrelevant. I think that is something that a lot of us think about, even if only subconsciously.

Maybe your mind is trying to urge you to find some new pursuits that will give you that sense of accomplishment. :-)

Perhaps it's a blessing after all that I quite disliked my last year of work, but for a number of my employees and others. Still in touch with a few. No dreams about it and wouldn't care to have any.

several times I've had this dream that I forgot to do a monthly task that would have cost us Federal funding plus total humiliation for me. When panic wakes me up, I am so relieved to be retired.

Dh has occasional nightmares about his old job, and I mean old like 21 years ago. We could never figure out why.
