"All cats are grey in the dark" is a quote usually attributed to Benjamin Franklin. He once wrote a letter to a friend in which he stated the advantages in taking an older woman for a mistress rather than a younger one. Old Ben was reputed to be quite the ladies man himself, with many affairs during his long lifetime.

any man who discusses a female body after having sex should be roasted alive. I'm a widower at 83 and I would never act in such a manner. Of course I have nothing to talk about.....

Well, I don't want to be a party pooper, but the reality is that most older men will be attracted to younger women most of the time. Now that may mean a 70 yr. old man will most likely pursue a 50 year old. We are not talking movie stars here I presume. It is human nature for a man to want to be psychically attracted to a woman, and generally speaking a younger woman is more attractive to him. Now this is not to say that a romance can not blossom between two 60 or 70 year olds. It can. However, I think that is more by chance and being exposed to one another for a period of time when you get the opportunity to know each other.

But if your at a singles dance and a woman, I think you will see mostly older men approaching you. I once took my mother (in her 60's who is very attractive) to a singles dance for seniors, because it was the only way I could get her to go. It turned out to be a real disappointment and embarrassing for me and for her, because all the 65 year old men were coming up to our table and asking me to dance and not my mother. That was one I lived to regret.

That kind of setting can be bad for a woman's self esteem and discourage her (as it did my mother), so I would urge the OP if she wants a shot at a relationship with someone close to her own age to put herself in an environment where the men she meets might have a chance to get to know her and appreciate all the positive things about her. We all can fall for a persons personality, wit and charm, and then they become much more physically appealing to us. But unfortunately, that take a little time invested.

Also, the income level of the man is a factor. If your looking for a handsome rich widowed doctor with money, you better be looking at one much older than yourself. Because, he will be the target of much younger woman as well, and he will be accustomed to attracting them.

However, I think most men of mature age and after being married for a number of years, realize the importance of picking a mate who is similar in likes and dislikes as themselves, as well as being kind and fun to be with and will value these traits much more than when they were younger. Older men too face the same physical insecurities as older woman. I don't think the 85 year old the OP mentioned is typical, but I'm sure once a cad, always a cad.

Another bit of humor:

When I was still working -- I think I was 50-ish -- I was talking at work one day about having seen Peter, Paul & Mary in concert the night before. My young coworkers asked, "Who is PP&M?" Which brought home to me that probably we should be in relationship with an SO we can relate to and vice versa.

But and anyway -- one time I asked an older man -- actually, my ex-BF, with whom I have remained great friends -- why he was marrying a beautiful woman, much younger than himself. "After all, 'Bob', we spend only an hour, at best, making love. You two had better have something to talk when you get out of bed." And he grinned: "Who needs to talk?"

Tsk, tsk -- dirty old men -- to the very end! LLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLL But I really do love it! Viva la difference! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

We men are only as old as the lady we are feeling.
